Post of EPICNESS… or how I spent my SDCC 2012 vacation

18 Jul

I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what to write for Action Chick’s site in regards to SDCC 2012 because I was there as a representative of sorts for her site. Unfortunately, within hours of heading south, every interview we had scheduled ended up not being a GO. This was fine- it opened up my schedule immensely! But on the other hand… it would’ve been a lot easier to write up some interviews and feel like I earned my keep than to try to write up TWO experience posts. I mean- I had  to write something for my own site, right?

I’ve already thanked Stewart, but once more won’t hurt- Thanks. 🙂 He did a great job of collecting the key points and putting them together in daily posts. Heck! I was onsite and he had some info that I didn’t know. As I’d mentioned before I made the pilgrimage, I wasn’t sure what the internet situation would be during the week- so it was nice to know that someone was minding the site. 🙂 Continue reading

Nerdplosion~ episode 4… I (sort of) Survived SDCC!

16 Jul

Just a quick post to let you know that yes, your hostess survived the annual nerd pilgrimage. I want to thank Stewart for stepping up and providing great news posts! I will be writing something ASAP to share the on-sight experience. And did you get a chance to read Emily’s addition?

I also want to mention that the interview I alluded to in the recent Random Questions post– talking with Tara & Yuri from Shelf Life, the series, went live on Action Flick Chick the other day. You can find part 1 here and part 2 here. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as we enjoyed doing it! It was a laugh riot- seriously. And definitely check out Shelf Life!

I’m exhausted from days on end of geekiness and crowds, so I’m going to take my brother back up north and then veg today as I get my thoughts in order. I’m afraid if I sit to write anything right now… it would end up pretty much gibberish!

On The Road Again… SDCC 2012 Here We Come!

10 Jul

This time tomorrow I will be on the freeway heading from LA to San Diego in the annual Nerd Pilgrimage. I missed San Diego Comic-Con last year so I am super excited to be attending this year. I usually attend, with my brother (see here and here for explanations as to why), on behalf of Evil Squirrel Comics in Chicago. I love ESC- it’s my home away from home. This year, however, James and I have a new boss and shall be working for my other home away from home- Action Flick Chick. In the last few weeks, it’s been fun getting an idea of who we may end up talking to for AFC. Certainly made our usual moseying around a little more difficult, but goodness knows- we are up to the challenge! Continue reading

Random Questions with Tara & Yuri!

8 Jul

Recently, I accepted a mission from the Action Chick herself (really… who wouldn’t?) to interview Tara Platt & Yuri Lowenthal, the masterminds behind the webseries, Shelf Life. Of course, I had not heard of the show prior to this so I ran over to youtube to catch up. Which was helpful when I started working out questions- special thanks to Stewart for his suggestions, too! But as a psychologist, I’m a big fan of random questions- I find that you can learn a lot about someone with a bit of randomness. We had quite a few laughs during the interview but these random questions didn’t quite fit my write-up. Too good not to share, so here’s an excerpt from the interview- Continue reading

Femme Fatales Premiere Coverage… OMG! James Gunn!

23 May

You may recall that last week AFC ran my interview with several of the ladies from Cinemax’s Femme Fatales– as a capper to that interview I was asked to cover the season two premiere. The write-up for that is up on AFC. This would be my first on-site press gig as the interviewer (remember, for Spartacus, I took the photos) and would also be attending the screening and after-party… so I tracked down someone to be my assistant for this event- my friend Phil Xenidis (you might know him better as rock god, Phil X formerly of Powder, currently playing with his band The Drills and with so many other awesome artists). As I laughed with a mutual friend the other day- last year, he was playing with Bon Jovi, now he’s my bitch. Ha! But in all seriousness- I have to give Phil a lot of love for his help. He took some great photos for me and it was great to have a friend to hang out with. Continue reading

FanGirl Squee… Convention season is upon us!

19 May

Alright… the season isn’t really a season anymore as there are great conventions throughout the year and all over the country, but back in the day starting with Easter and running through Labor Day, it was convention season.  Continue reading

Nerdplosion… episode 3

14 May

Not too long ago, I mentioned that Action Chick herself had given me a mission to interview some of the ladies of Femme Fatales. Well, today, the interview went live over at AFC. Excited to see this one go live for many reasons, but mostly because this particular interview actually was the most fun I’d had doing this sort of thing. Chatting with the ladies was awesome. They both had such great things to say- and the stories I got from Madison… HILARIOUS! Even better than that though is the fact that Madison and I are now friends and hopefully she will become a contributor here! Life is crazy sometimes.

So take a read-thru of the article, leave a comment, tweet/facebook it and share it with your friends!

mini-Nerdsplosion- This Means War

3 May

Old news now, but I had the opportunity to see a screening of the recent Reese Witherspoon flick, This Means War, and review it for AFC. This mini post is just to link you to it… Though, I will say- for the record- I enjoyed this film immensely. I didn’t go into it with high expectations, but that didn’t stop me from having a good time. If you haven’t seen it, I do recommend it. I mean… don’t shell out $20 for it. Go to the cheap theater or wait for DVD/streaming.  Unless you prefer the big fancy screens. Eh… do whatever you want. 😛

A Mission from the Chick Herself…

29 Apr

A few weeks ago the Action Chick herself emailed me and asked if I would be up for some interviews. I said of course, but there was a minor problem at the time- I was in Monterey at a conference. Continue reading

Week of Geek

25 Apr

Probably won’t make many posts like this often as adventures tend to get their own posts and not a jumbled collection… but this week has been full of mini geekery and I feel like sharing some of it. Continue reading
