Guest Post~ How to raise Nerds!

29 Aug

Recent guest poster, and regular NerdLush BTS researcher/archivist, Barbara is back to share her thoughts on raising nerds. And speaking as one of the nerds she raised… she knows what she is talking about.

I raised nerds. I’m not quite sure how I did it but I am quite happy with the result. Continue reading

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, year 5

15 Nov

One of the great things about attending all 5 years of Stan Lee’s Comikaze is that we’ve been able to observe the convention grow and change every year. This year the event grew to having two halls of LA’s Convention Center. We noted last year that it wasn’t quite big enough for us to travel for the event to attend for multiple days- we discussed on our travels home that this year, we felt it was almost a requirement ro come multiple days.

Guest Post!!!~ WonderCon 2014: Psychology of Cult TV

27 Apr

Charity Tran is a friend of and guest blogger for NerdLush.  In addition to being a full-time nerd, she is a writer and digital strategist who is currently pursuing her doctorate related to fan studies and technical communication. She muses at intellichick.com and tweets from @intellichick. (She is also a frequent conspirator of Nerd Adventures)

A very popular panel at WonderCon 2014 centered on the subject of Psychology of Cult TV shows.  A full room including a standing back row watched as a panel of psychology experts discussed the rich subject matter that made up this topic in both its fictional context and its potential real-world impact.  The panel included Dr. Janina Scarlet (The Superhero Manual), Josué Cardona (Geek Therapy), Dr. Travis Langley (Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight), and NerdLush Diva herself Elizabeth Ann.

Marathons… not just for runners anymore!

18 Dec

You know what’s truly sad? Staring at this space does not magically make a post appear. Especially when I get so easily distracted by the marathon of Eureka running on my TV.

Oh… wait.  Continue reading

San Diego Comic-con 2013- Joss Whedon

23 Jul

One of my favorite panels is the Joss Q&A. If my brother and I make it to the con, this panel is high up on our list. It’s not the best video as my camera died right before and I had to switch and we sat in the back of ballroom 20, but… it is complete (minus 1 question in the middle) and is a lot of fun. If you’ve never had the opportunity to listen to Joss… enjoy! Continue reading

The Four Letter Word in Sci-Fi Shows: Cancelled

11 Feb

It’s that awful moment during November sweeps, or during summer, refreshing your internet feed on twitter and tumblr when you see it- your favorite show has been CANCELED. Saddened and dismayed you take to the internet, posting comments and signing petitions, uploading rants about networks and their executives to YouTube  After a few days, sometimes a few weeks in rare occasion, the average person moves on to another show, another fandom. Still, there are always shows that linger in people’s thoughts years after cancellation  with fans always hoping that somehow the show will find a resurrection, as Firefly found with Serenity (although lets be honest, most of us would back a Kickstarter campaign to bring the show back in any form), Futurama found with another network, and of course the resurrection of Doctor Who in 2005, now one of the most popular shows in both Britain and the USA.

DVD Commentaries… yay or nay?

5 Aug

As I watch my Farscape DVDs (or the recently released Leverage s4), I’ve taken to watching the commentaries- something I usually only do after having watched the show/film multiple times first. Continue reading

Post of EPICNESS… or how I spent my SDCC 2012 vacation

18 Jul

I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what to write for Action Chick’s site in regards to SDCC 2012 because I was there as a representative of sorts for her site. Unfortunately, within hours of heading south, every interview we had scheduled ended up not being a GO. This was fine- it opened up my schedule immensely! But on the other hand… it would’ve been a lot easier to write up some interviews and feel like I earned my keep than to try to write up TWO experience posts. I mean- I had  to write something for my own site, right?

I’ve already thanked Stewart, but once more won’t hurt- Thanks. 🙂 He did a great job of collecting the key points and putting them together in daily posts. Heck! I was onsite and he had some info that I didn’t know. As I’d mentioned before I made the pilgrimage, I wasn’t sure what the internet situation would be during the week- so it was nice to know that someone was minding the site. 🙂 Continue reading
