As I recently posted, this past weekend had a convention in the South Valley of California and I trekked down with my partner in nerdery (my big brother and fellow nerd), James, to check it out. I was pretty blown away that it was the 12th year of the event and honestly the first time I had even heard about it. I honestly thought that ep of The Big Bang Theory was making it up!
I was wrong.
Recently, we had the pleasure of checking out the first stop on the Fandemic Tour, with a quick trip up to Sacramento to help inaugurate a new convention. Overall, it was quite an enjoyable convention and it is recommended to check out if a stop happens to be near you. Though as it was the first event, there are a few things that could be improved. So…y’all know how much I love Jellyfish, right? Well, ever since NerdLush HQ moved to Central California, I’ve been trying to get to the coast to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and enjoy their fabulous jellyfish exhibit. It’s been a few years since my last visit and I recently found out that the Jellyfish Experience exhibit will be closing after Labor Day.

Had to sit through a training on self care for clinicians today, i.e. how to take care of myself so that I can take care of my clients. Not a bad training, as trainings go, but personally I figured out my own self care approaches while in grad school- the first time. It did strike an idea- what are some self care ideas for my nerd peers? I mean, there are a lot of easy self care and coping skills that healthy adults use all the time, but are there any that strike me as key for ideas for nerds? Or what can be tweaked to be specific?

Due to a double post day on Wednesday, there’s nothing ready to run today. I know… bad form. I could let it go and just skip the day, but I would prefer to run something. Personally, I’m working on my next piece looking at the psychology of characters, but it won’t be ready for a bit. And there’s a guest piece in the works on my recent panel at WonderCon (along with video of the panel), but again… not ready to run today. I’ve had to run around southern California a lot recently and I’ve been trying to do so at the best travel times as possible- to decrease stress levels, of course. But yesterday I had to run down to San Diego (around 120 or so miles from my place) and had to be there at a specific time… which meant that if I didn’t do it right, I’d hit traffic and go nuts.
