Bakersfield Comic Con helped me collect a new TV Dad!

18 Nov

As I recently posted, this past weekend had a convention in the South Valley of California and I trekked down with my partner in nerdery (my big brother and fellow nerd), James, to check it out. I was pretty blown away that it was the 12th year of the event and honestly the first time I had even heard about it. I honestly thought that ep of The Big Bang Theory was making it up!

I was wrong.

ARROW Season 8×01, “Starling City” recap

16 Oct

Welcome back, Arrowheads, as we start the final season of Arrow! In case you need a reminder of what happened in the season finale, here’s the short version: Oliver has been recruited by The Monitor to save the entire multiverse from destruction, but it’s a mission that will end in Ollie’s demise (he did make a deal with The Monitor to sacrifice himself for his comrades, after all)! But what is this mission exactly? Let’s find out in a second, but first, let’s deal with the flashforwards to 2040 and the Queen siblings and get that out of the way, okay? Continue reading

13 Dec

Welcome back! While we’ll have a regular installment of this column later this week (involving Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow, and a catch-up on Titans), this one is a special extra long one covering The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl respectively, as we recap the crossover event, Elseworlds! So let’s just get to all the craziness… Continue reading

Heroes and Villains invaded San Jose for another year of adventuring!

10 Dec

For our 3rd year, we ventured over the hill from the Central Valley to hang out with some heroes and villains, and zombies too!, in San Jose. This was sort of a last minute venture due to availability issues with minions, but in the end we made plans and set out to see what there was to see.

As I write up the event and my thoughts, I am starting to think there should be classes on convention etiquette because there were several moments that were frustrating. However, there were also a lot of really good things. Did it balance out? I’m not sure… let’s talk about some of the highlights and issues and see. Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 22, “Darkness on the Edge of Town” / Ep. 23, “Sacrifice”

30 Sep

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! We are finally at the end of season one, and we got lots to deal with. Ollie is patching things with Diggle while things are still icy with Tommy over Laurel (remember when that was still a thing?). Poor Walter has been recovered from captivity, Thea is still helping her boyfriend Roy track down the mysterious Hood, and oh yeah, there’s still Malcolm Merlyn’s plan to destroy part of Starling City, because, Malcolm Merlyn’s a psycho. So without further ado, let’s get to the end of this thing… Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 20, “Home Invasion” / Ep. 21, “The Undertaking”

17 Sep

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! When last we left everyone, Ollie lost his business partner, best friend Tommy, to him working with his dad and Ollie’s unknown nemesis, Malcolm Merlyn! And now Ollie has agreed to help Diggle take out his arch nemesis, Deadshot, which can only work out great as long as there’s no external conflict that comes between it, and that doesn’t happen on Arrow, right? And of course, our Team Arrow is still trying to figure out the whole Undertaking scheme, but know now it’s going to happen in Star City. So, let’s just jump in… Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 18, “Salvation” / Ep. 19, “Unfinished Business”

21 Aug

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! When last we left things, the Queen clan was getting into one mess after another. Ollie has had to deal with an assassination attempt on Malcolm Merlyn, unknown to him, ordered by Ollie’s mom! And Moira’s plan failed, leaving her to contend with a Malcolm looking for the person behind the attempt on his life. This also revealed to both Ollie and Diggle that the assassin Deadshot is still alive, which is of bad news to the latter man in that duo. Also, Thea is dating some dude named Roy from The Glades, which is odd. She’s doing better on the dating scene than Ollie, whose newest girlfriend has moved out of town to recover from injuries given to her by his murderous ex-girlfriend (long story there). And Tommy is still dating Laurel, so it’s not all bad. Well, maybe not, but let’s find out for ourselves… Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 16, “Dead to Rights” / Ep. 17, “The Huntress Returns”

11 Aug

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! When last we left the rewatch, Ollie and Diggle had to bring tech girl Felicity into their vigilante party, when her information on the still disappeared Walter leads them to a suspect: Walter’s wife and Ollie’s mom, Moira. Moira herself is not cool with this kidnapping engineered by Malcolm Merlyn, so she makes the most rational decision she can: hire the Chinese Triad via China White to kill Malcolm! Also, Thea meets some boy named Roy, but that go anywhere, mark my words. Anyhoo, let’s get back to it… Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 14, “The Odyssey” / Ep. 15, “Dodger”

1 Aug

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! Last time: Thanks to Felicity revealing to Ollie what she knows about Walter’s investigation prior to his vanishing, we now have a new suspect in that vanishing for the Arrow Duo: Ollie’s mom, Moira! Ollie seems reluctant to believe all this, even after her suspicious behavior is apparent to him and to Diggle, so Ollie pays a visit to her mom as The Hood! Has Moira failed this city? Continue reading

ARROW Season 1 rewatch, Ep. 12, “Vertigo” / Ep. 13, “Betrayal”

24 Jul

Welcome back to the rewatch, Arrowheads! When last we checked in on season one, Ollie was recovering from his brutal encounter with the Dark Archer, and dealing with a whole new set of problems. One being Walter Steele being kidnapped, unaware the kidnappers were Malcolm Merlyn and Ollie’s mom, Moira! Thea thinks Moira is having an affair with Malcolm, and gets into a drug-fueled car wreck, and now facing drug possession charges. Quentin is using his daughter’s new connection with The Hood to spring a trap to capture the vigilante. And Tommy…well, he’s still got to open that nightclub with Ollie, so…that’s taking some time. Anyhoo, let’s jump back into things, shall we? Continue reading
