Guest Post!!~ San Diego Comic Con: Nerds of a Feather Flock Together!

2 Aug

Hello fellow nerds! My name is Bethany and NerdLush recruited me to write a blog about my San Diego Comic Con experience this year. First, a little bit about myself- I am a book nerd, TV junkie, and general superhero fan. I have been attending Comic Con the last 7 years, and it’s always been an adventure. This year was no different.

A little John Barrowman is good for the soul.

10 Nov

As previously mentioned in the recent Comikaze Expo post, NerdLush caught the John Barrowman panels at the convention. We also caught them on video for those not able to attend the convention… and to be honest, because we just adore the man and wanted to be able to watch the panels again.

John-Barrowman Continue reading

A very popular panel at WonderCon 2014 centered on the subject of Psychology of Cult TV shows.  A full room including a standing back row watched as a panel of psychology experts discussed the rich subject matter that made up this topic in both its fictional context and its potential real-world impact.  The panel included Dr. Janina Scarlet (The Superhero Manual), Josué Cardona (Geek Therapy), Dr. Travis Langley (Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight), and NerdLush Diva herself Elizabeth Ann.

Hunting the Wild Barrowman

15 Apr

One would think that this mission- a picture with John Barrowman- would not be a difficult task, but this is a mission 5 years in the making! But in order to tell the story, I have to start at the beginning-

Captain-Jack-Harkness-John-barrowman-and-David-Tennant-doctor-who-34840887-600-480In the fall of 2006, I had uprooted myself from sunny California to the great city of Chicago in order to complete a masters degree. Through the social networking and fandoms at the time, I was blessed with friends all over the world- but none in Chicago. The closest people I knew were relatives in Wisconsin (who I didn’t really know) and a dear friend at the southern end of Illinois. So… as I waited for classes to start and semi wandered the city to acclimate myself, I also dug into shows and movies that I had missed. One such was the 2005 Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston. Now I remember watching DW as a kid on PBS (though I couldn’t tell you who my first Doctor was) and I know I watched the 1996 telefilm on FOX with the 8th Doctor, but I really didn’t know much about the series. Oh, BBC, why can’t I quit you?!?!???

10 Nov

Sigh.

I love the BBC.

But I also hate them.

Seriously.

They make me love a television series- like, love love- and then they kill me because there are only six episodes. Or 13. Or maybe 20. And the series ran for multiple years… but that’s all there is. Why, BBC? Don’t you want me to be happy? Continue reading

Doctor What?

8 Aug

If you’ve been living under a rock (like me) then you might have been surprised to find out that there was a new Doctor for Doctor Who announced the other day at 11am Pacific Time. I for one, wouldn’t have known at all, had it not been for all of the Facebook pages and all of twitter going nuts over this announcement as if it were the next dawning of Christ Himself….  thank you, twitterbook.

So who is the new Doc? Continue reading

Let’s talk about SPOILERS!!!

24 May

No, seriously, I want to talk about spoilers.

I haven’t made it to see Star Trek Into Darkness yet. Nor have I watched any of the last 2 years of Doctor Who. However, due to people not grasping what a spoiler is… I know details that I shouldn’t.

So what is a spoiler? Continue reading

Stop the needless unemployment of innocent dinosaurs! Join the cause!

9 Mar

The day following the season 1 finale of scifi adventure Primeval: New World, it was announced that it’s network would not be renewing. Essentially, the dinosaur romp was cancelled. The blow hit the fans hard- especially considering how the original UK series had been cancelled and saved by the fans. But here we are, on the tails of a fantastic 2-part finale- cliffhanger galore!- sitting on the precipice of a world with no employed dinosaurs.

Keep the dinosaurs employed! (art by Dee2)

Oh, and I really want to know what other stories the characters have to say! Continue reading
