Let’s talk about SPOILERS!!!

24 May

No, seriously, I want to talk about spoilers.

I haven’t made it to see Star Trek Into Darkness yet. Nor have I watched any of the last 2 years of Doctor Who. However, due to people not grasping what a spoiler is… I know details that I shouldn’t.

So what is a spoiler?

A spoiler is “a published piece of information that divulges a surprise, such as a plot twist in a movie.” Remember when Sixth Sense came out? I didn’t see the film for weeks. And I didn’t KNOW the twist until I saw the film.

Today, via social media, secrets are known in minutes.

I missed the recent Criminal Minds season finale (I’ll catch up on it soon, don’t worry), but unfortunately because I follow several of the actors on both twitter and facebook, I know what happened because there was a live tweet. Now, don’t get me wrong- I love a good live tweet session. But not if it’s going to be full of spoilers. Eddie McClintock has been live tweeting the recent Warehouse 13 episodes- spoiler free. He comments about BTS stuff- inside jokes, details, etc. He does a fabulous job. Heck, I caught a recent live tweeting of a Castle ep with Ed Quinn. He did a great job- mostly responding to comments and questions. And joking around with the writer and director (and other cast members) who were tweeting too.

Anyways… what I want to end with is this- be careful what you say. Use a spoiler warning. Or don’t say something that gives away a secret twist. The consequences mean you may be the target of flamers and haters.

What do you think?
