Faster, faster, must go faster! Or err… something like that.

7 Feb

Fair warning- this is rambly. Even for me.

So, remember how I recently wrote about my plague and the end result was viewing the new Primeval: New World? And how in doing so I also ended up watching the original UK version, Primeval? Well… I did. I felt I needed an understanding of the concept in order to understand the new show. Actually, I don’t think you need to know more than the gist I wrote about in the other piece but since watching a few eps turned into marathoning all 5 seasons (36 episodes), I think it deserves a little love too.

Time keeps on slipping into CONTINUUM

30 Jan
I'm hoping for an episode where they correct Caprica being cancelled.

I’m hoping for an episode where they correct Caprica being cancelled.

Syfy has been a fertile ground for its own original programming (save Alphas, which got canned after a far better second season and cliffhanger, to boot) and for importing shows outside the U.S.  Besides the Canadian urban fantasy Lost Girl, the channel recently picked up the time travel show Continuum (its first season aired in Canada last year, and its second season is going into production soon).  Continue reading

Not your mother’s Fairy Tales!

28 Jan

This is not a review. Let me just point that out now.

I saw a screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters the other night and I had a fabulous time. I know, there are many who are going to say- “seriously? You enjoyed that?” And to them I say, “Yes”. And here’s why- when I see a movie, I want to be entertained. I don’t want to be lectured at or made to feel bad. To me, a movie is entertainment and therefore I should leave the theater feeling like I’ve had fun. I want to laugh. I want to be exhilarated. I don’t mind a few tears. But the end result of my time is that I want to have been entertained. And it doesn’t even have to be a good film (we know I adore my bad movies)- as long as I come out of it not feeling like I just wasted 2 hours of my life.

My Catch-Up on ARROW

22 Jan

In the interest of full disclosure, let’s just get this fact cleared up: even with the good news I heard about it and having some interest in the character, I had no interest in watching the CW’s Arrow.  In all fairness, those reasons were pretty much image-based: mainly a CW show starring a hunky guy with a title that thought the usage of “Green” wasn’t edgy enough.  On the other hand, the CW has managed to do some decent genre shows besides the usual sudsy teen/20-ish dramas the network has been known for, like Supernatural and Nikita, but my schedule was a bit heavy that I hadn’t been able to catch up until now.  The show came back earlier this month, so I thought I should check it out. NerdLush 2012 highlights!

31 Dec

As 2012 has been the first year of NerdLush (and THANK YOU for our great success!), I wanted to be sure to look back on some of the highlights of the year- not just ours but those of nerdy & geekyness. This post contains input from all of the NerdLush contributors of 2012- myself, Stewart, and Emily. We opened it up to new contributors Natasha and D2 but haven’t heard their thoughts yet… maybe they’ll get off their tushies and comment 😉

Enjoy the collection of highlights! Continue reading

NerdLush Gives!

23 Dec

One of the things I wanted to do with this site was be sure to give back- we get a lot of support from other nerds (in person or on the site) and I didn’t want to forget to pay it forward. We have a tiny store (which will grow as soon as I have time to update it) and for now all the proceeds go to charity. In the future, we might use some to pay for the site fees, but they aren’t much anyways so charity is still a huge goal of mine. Continue reading

An Apology for Not Discovering SHERLOCK Until Right Now

19 Dec

I like to believe I’m good at catching on to shows that are really good earlier than most people in general do.  I was a staunch supporter of shows like Battlestar Galactica, Sons of Anarchy, and Breaking Bad, for example, long before they entered the pop culture conversation.  But even saying that, I have to confess because of time and other constraints, I’m often late to the party in many shows.  I didn’t get into Supernatural until someone after its fifth season, Mad Men only sporadically interested me, and let’s not talk about my lack of interest in watching Smallville (even though I love Superman).
