Television Graveyard- plot 9, SeaQuest DSV

20 Jul

Things were different back in the 90s…

Sunday night television was actually appropriate for families. Shows didn’t aim to outdo each other by hitting extremes of violence, sex, language or gore. It was a different time.

Kids, in the fall of 1993, NBC  premiered a sci-fi series from Steven Spielberg set in the near-ish future where the world was mostly at peace, and man had set out to explore a new frontier… the oceans.

Yuri’s Night! Epic SPAAAAAACE Party Brings Out The Scientist In Us All!

13 Apr

Last year, I was wandering around Twitter on April 12th and noticed that a lot of people that I loved/followed were all attending a party for “Yuri’s Night”. So I said to myself, “self… what is this Yuri’s Night thing and why am I not at this party?” Oh, I looked- it was completely sold out at that point; so I bookmarked it as something to look at for this year. And then I googled the event and it’s meaning. Continue reading

Upcoming Nerd Adventure

3 Jun

As you know, we enjoy wandering out and having nerd fun. Our last adventure was to the renaissance and pleasure fair. So this short post is to see if there would be interest in a nerd adventure to visit JPL. Come on… it’s science! Space!

We are suckers for space around here… the crew were all sitting around our various homes watching Curiosity’s landing last year. I have the NASA channel on my TV so that I can watch whenever I want.

Personally, I’m a wee bit jealous when people in my tweeterfeed go on about their visits to JPL… I wanna go to. So come with us. Let’s go learn about space!

The Philosophy of Gardening: Why Grow Your Own Food?

11 Mar

People ask me why I bother growing my own food. After all, fruit and vegetables are so cheap these days. I live in the city just a block from a supermarket. Why waste my time?

Having grown up in the countryside, my answer is simple: “Why not?” Modern life is busy, hectic, packed. Every advert on TV boasts to shave another few seconds off a task that is already achieved ten times quicker than our parent’s generation could do it. Everywhere people are mainlining coffee and popping pills like PacMan to get them through their week, then wondering why they can’t sleep on weekends and have a heart attack at age 40.

Call me old school, but I think it’s time to slow down. Continue reading

Community, no not the TV Show.

9 Feb

Guest post by Lee Daniels.
************************************************************

I thought long and hard for a few days of what to write for my first blog post, after all there’s so much going on right now with Marvel, Star Wars and every Mark Millar comic being turned into a movie, it makes choosing a subject a lot easier with such a huge pool to pick from.

But I wanted to write something that means a lot to me and that most likely means a lot to you to.

The geek community. Continue reading

31 Dec

As 2012 has been the first year of NerdLush (and THANK YOU for our great success!), I wanted to be sure to look back on some of the highlights of the year- not just ours but those of nerdy & geekyness. This post contains input from all of the NerdLush contributors of 2012- myself, Stewart, and Emily. We opened it up to new contributors Natasha and D2 but haven’t heard their thoughts yet… maybe they’ll get off their tushies and comment 😉

Enjoy the collection of highlights! Continue reading

Television Graveyard- plot 1, PREY

14 Sep

I have, in my collection of DVDs, a large number of old, short-lived, or maybe little remembered series. I might throw Firefly into this group, but if you call yourself a geek or a nerd, you ought to be familiar with that one. So I’m thinking that from time to time it might be fun to discuss one of these dearly departed television series. Not recaps, per se… just a wee post about them.

We’ll start with one from 1998- PREY

Our Curiosity has been piqued!

5 Aug

Mars is easily my favorite planet. In middle school, in order to get into the super fancy engineering academy high school, I wrote an essay about how much I wanted to be the first woman on Mars. And I have evey intention of one day taking a vacation to Mars (probably when I’m elevendy.) So, with that being said…

WE JUST LANDED STUFF ON MARS!!!!!!!!!!!! Continue reading
