Television Graveyard, plot 16~ Lois & Clark

The early 90s attempted to reignite the love for genre TV. Two shows were already presented in this column- SeaQuest DSV & The Flash– but the primary networks had several other shows on air that they used to try to bring in the genre crowd. NBC ran a pair of dramas on Saturday night- The Pretender and Profiler– that they used to dominate the thrill/suspense group. CBS was king of the mysteries. And ABC had a tight grip on the “family” audience with their Friday night line-up of sitcoms. So they tried their darnedest to transfer that audience to a genre with the family friendly Superman series, Lois & Clark.

Television Graveyard- plot 9, SeaQuest DSV

Things were different back in the 90s…

Sunday night television was actually appropriate for families. Shows didn’t aim to outdo each other by hitting extremes of violence, sex, language or gore. It was a different time.

Kids, in the fall of 1993, NBC  premiered a sci-fi series from Steven Spielberg set in the near-ish future where the world was mostly at peace, and man had set out to explore a new frontier… the oceans.

What was your must see TV?

The problem with hiatus TV is that it sucks. There’s a lot of reality TV and reruns. Nothing entertaining really. At least to me. So I’ll be using the suggestions from a previous post as entertainment til something new starts.  Continue reading
