Marian Call is a Nerdlush favourite; residing in Juneau, Alaska, Marian has been making music since 2007, singing about spaceships and dragons and technology and what it means to be a geek. Continue reading

Highlights of 2013, a NerdLush year in review

13 Jan

Many thanks to Emily for starting the year off with a drunk year in review. Made me laugh. But I’m poking my head in now with a slightly more serious look back at 2013 and where it took NerdLush. As well as some of the favorites, as voted on by fans. Continue reading

The Power of Social Media

15 Oct

I’ve often been asked by people who don’t use any form of Social Media as to what the point of it is. This got me thinking as to just how powerful a tool it could be, so I thought about my own experiences with Twitter and how just one tweet from Wil Wheaton 18 months ago changed the entire direction of my life. Continue reading

San Diego Comic-con- I survived Con Crud!

2 Aug

This is probably the last significant post we’ll do about SDCC 2013, but I wanted to do a personal round up of my time there. Last year’s post still gets regular hits, so for some reason this sort of thing is of interest.

All The Nomz: The cookbook for hungry geeks

23 Jun

For the last 6 months I have been working with two great people (David and Marian) on a very exciting project that was born out of a discussion about carrots with Alaskan Folk singer Marian Call. Yes carrots.

It’s been a very quick 6 months that has been challenging (in a good way), exciting and a little frustrating (stupid HDD failure). None of us had worked together before, heck we’d only know each other a couple of months and met once in Geneva for Marian Call’s CERN concert before diving into this crazy thing.

So what exactly is this crazy plan of world dominat…..I mean crazy awesome geeky charity cookbook thingy with awesome people in it all about? Continue reading

Community, no not the TV Show.

9 Feb

Guest post by Lee Daniels.
************************************************************

I thought long and hard for a few days of what to write for my first blog post, after all there’s so much going on right now with Marvel, Star Wars and every Mark Millar comic being turned into a movie, it makes choosing a subject a lot easier with such a huge pool to pick from.

But I wanted to write something that means a lot to me and that most likely means a lot to you to.

The geek community. Continue reading

Do I hear a waltz? No, but I hear some ROCK & ROLL!

24 Jan

Been a wee bit since I went on about my musical taste but I’ve gotten a few new albums lately- some artists that I love and others that are new to me- and I wanted to share. Let me say this first- this is all opinion based; I am not trained in anything musical nor do I have much of a knowledge other than my own taste. I cannot tell you that a piece of music is important or special because it blah blah blah… all I can say is what I feel about the music and how it moves me. I can tell you what I like and what I don’t. Take it as opinion, not fact, and if what I say intrigues you- then check out the music for yourself and let me know what you think. Now that I’ve laid out that disclaimer, let’s begin. Continue reading

If You Heard My MP3 Player… You’d Think Me Strange

22 Jun

I do not like most conventional music. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t listen to the radio (my new car has XM Satelite radio and I’ve got it set to oldies stations- Hair Nation is my fav)… which makes it a little weird when people ask my opinion about music. I can’t tell you bubkiss about who is popular now. Or even ten years ago. I’m absolutely horrible with bands… unless I adore them. And for me to adore you, as a musician or band, you have to be awesome. And generally… that means you are indie.  Continue reading
