Geek Into Shape!

13 Sep

Howdy Lushites!

I’m sad to report to the world’s male population that I’ve officially been taken off The Market and have accepted the marriage proposal of my male suitor. Excuse me for one moment while I squee:

eeeeeeee!

Yaaaaaay!

This means a couple of things: Continue reading

Welcome to Hollywoodland!

9 Sep

I live in LA. I have friends throughout the entertainment industry. It was only a matter of time before I was involved in some project, right?

If you said yes, gold star to you.

I recently had the opportunity to wear a few hats on the set of a short film. NerdLush friend, Tara Platt– you know, from Shelf Life, duh- gave herself a personal challenge to film and complete a short film in a 48 hour period. Putting the call out via social media, Tara put together a team of volunteers who would come together on a recent weekend to create… art. And yes, yours truly replied to the call with the following response- “not my area of expertise, but I can move things”, or something very similar. I figured an extra set of hands couldn’t hurt and if they had enough help, I’d be informed- no harm, no foul. But my help was appreciated. Continue reading

Upcoming Conventions!!

1 Sep

Very excited to announce (though I mentioned it the other day on the twitter page) that NerdLush will be attending Stan Lee’s Comikaze 2013 and the 2013 Long Beach Comic Con this fall. We’ve attended Comikaze the last two years, but this’ll be our first time at LBCC.

So I have two questions- check the guest lists, who should we talk to? And what other SoCal events should we try to make it to?

Guest Post ~~ Bringing up baby, the geek mom way.

22 Aug

The Guest Post this time comes from a NerdLush fan and friend, Jackie- she tells of raising a baby in a world of geek.
*************************************************************

Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading

Casual Gamer’s Overly Delayed Video Game Review: The Mass Effect Trilogy!

16 Aug

Okay, I’ll admit I’m extremely late to the party. Heck, Stu’s already written up a page! But, I wouldn’t be the Casual Gamer if I didn’t have an Overly Delayed Video Game Review for you! (EDIT: This entry has been sitting as a draft for months. Sorry Nerdlush, maybe I need to change this to Overly Delayed Post For Overly Delayed Video Game Review…) Continue reading

It’s fun to be scared! ~ NerdLush goes to ScareLA

14 Aug

You guys have been around for a while- you know there are two things that we at NerdLush LOVE ~ conventions and Halloween. Well, there’s a new convention in town that happens to be all about Halloween! WIN!

ScareLA celebrated it’s first year with a convention in downtown LA, at the LA Mart. They took up the 2nd floor of the building with classes, workshops, panels, presentations, and booths. Emily and I opted for the cheapest, one day ticket, and so we did not have access to participate in the classes or panels, but we could wander the hall (through the booths) and around the workshop areas (to see the various projects being taught/done) and sit at the stages to enjoy the presentations. Doctor What?

8 Aug

If you’ve been living under a rock (like me) then you might have been surprised to find out that there was a new Doctor for Doctor Who announced the other day at 11am Pacific Time. I for one, wouldn’t have known at all, had it not been for all of the Facebook pages and all of twitter going nuts over this announcement as if it were the next dawning of Christ Himself….  thank you, twitterbook.

So who is the new Doc? Continue reading

Guilty Pleasures- here comes the bride!

4 Aug

Let me remind you- I do not have TV. I have Roku, which streams Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. This is important because it helps explain how I get so caught up in my next guilty pleasure… bridal shows. Whenever I go home to my mom’s, it’s like cable TV knows that I’m home and there are ALWAYS marathons of bridal shows. My favorite is Say Yes to the Dress (particularly the Atlanta version).

San Diego Comic-con- I survived Con Crud!

2 Aug

This is probably the last significant post we’ll do about SDCC 2013, but I wanted to do a personal round up of my time there. Last year’s post still gets regular hits, so for some reason this sort of thing is of interest.

Gag Reels- show me the funny!

29 Jul

I’ve been down for the count all week with Con Crud leftover from SDCC, which translates to a DVD marathon. I’m catching up on Supernatural because I’m a season and a half behind due to not liking an event in season 7. So… I have to catch up- which means I need to start at the beginning.  Continue reading
