Much earlier than usual, I am able to declare my guilty pleasure show for the fall 2016 season- Notorious. I’ll be honest, I basically only watch my genre (superheroes/supernatural/fantasy) shows these days. I’ve stopped watching all my dramas or cop shows in the last few years since working at the prison- I’m tired when I get home and the comic book heroes don’t require a ton of thinking on my part. Bonus- they are better popcorn for the mind! So it’s weird to say that a show about a news program and a couple of lawyers is now something I look forward to.
Television Graveyard- plot 13, Birds of Prey
7 Aug
Towards the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the WB* attempted to keep the Girl Power strong with their network by bringing in some DC characters. After all, the WB was riding high on Smallville‘s success. They still had Charmed, but they seemed to want some ladies who kicked ass, without the cartoony silliness the Halliwell sisters sometimes got into- I don’t mock, still love Charmed!
*yes, I know that Buffy was on UPN for it’s last two years, but we all know the WB still thought of it as their baby.
What they got was thirteen episodes of what could’ve been awesome.
‘Could’ve been’ being the operative phrase. Of course, the fact that I own the DVDs also says that while the show wasn’t great, Birds of Prey was a lot of fun. And it had so much potential. Continue reading
Guilty Pleasures- MTV’s Teen Wolf
2 JunFor some time, my young friend Marina (who I have known since she was knee high to a grasshopper) has been recommending that I watch MTV’s Teen Wolf (at this point I should note that the rec actually comes from her mom, who recc’ed it to her, but that’s not the point). I always said I’d get around to it… eventually.
Well, now that I have free time and my fav shows are on hiatus, I finally have the time to watch those genre shows I’ve been putting off… And Amazon Prime having the complete series (so far) streaming for free was a pretty good push to put Teen Wolf towards the top of my list.
And what can I say- I am not above enjoying a show that has pretty guys running around shirtless (especially since this happens much more often than the girls showing skin- props to MTV).
I stayed up too late the other night to finish my marathon and am now super sad that I have to wait for the next season! Which, by the way, starts on June 23rd.
Oh, and um… SPOILERS ahead. Continue reading
Guilty Pleasures- Sleepy Hollow
12 MarEvery year there is at least one TV show that squeezes it’s way into my viewing schedule and steals my heart. In the 2012-2013 season it was Arrow. After seeing the pilot- which I loved- it was clear that the show could go either way. It could suck, burning and dying in an insane death, or it could be awesome. And it was AWESOME. So in the fall of 2013, Fox introduced a show that should’ve died after the second or third episode… but it didn’t.
“Vampire Dairies” is My Guilty Pleasure
10 AugDee2 here, whispering my little confession:
I was bored one day and hit up my Netflix to find something new to watch to pass some time as I multi-tasked. I have heard of this show, but never taken the time to watch it, until two months ago. I do love vampire stories & supernatural storylines, so I clicked on Vampire Diaries and started my addictive journey into Mystic Falls, Virginia. Home to vampires, werewolves, hybrids, witches and other supernatural beings. As with almost every show on CW, this one does not fail to provide us with a very good-looking cast. Continue reading
Guilty Pleasures- here comes the bride!
4 AugLet me remind you- I do not have TV. I have Roku, which streams Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. This is important because it helps explain how I get so caught up in my next guilty pleasure… bridal shows. Whenever I go home to my mom’s, it’s like cable TV knows that I’m home and there are ALWAYS marathons of bridal shows. My favorite is Say Yes to the Dress (particularly the Atlanta version).
