If you didn’t know, there’s a new Superman film coming out in a few weeks’ time called Man of Steel, this one is written by David S. Goyer (Dark Knight Trilogy) & Directed by Zack Snyder (300 & Watchmen) and has a pretty decent cast, so let’s hope it’s great because let’s face it, no-one wants to sit through another Superman Returns. Ruining a Genre: Popularity of Twilight and Hunger Games

Life isn’t perfect, in fact often it is quite the opposite. Despite the efforts we make day in and day out, not everything goes our way. That is what makes dystopian novels and movies so intriguing and interesting. Its our world, but slightly off. It gives the possibility of ‘what if.’ Usually it’s something like a war, or sickness, or government battle that changes the world, but it is also something feasible, and that is why it is terrifying. Fairy Tales are just not the same anymore…

So in my recent binge of Syfy channel films, I’ve taken to finally watching the channel’s versions of the fairy tales/fantasies- Tin Man, Alice, and Neverland. I’ve stated a few times that I’m not big on things that are altered from the original. Why change a good story? Or song? But every once in a while I give these things a chance.

Creature Features are good for the soul.

Throughout my recent bout of the plague, and to be honest whenever I feel the need for a pick me up, I tend to reach for some of the greatest achievements of film ever- the Creature Feature. Not your mother’s Fairy Tales!

This is not a review. Let me just point that out now.

I saw a screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters the other night and I had a fabulous time. I know, there are many who are going to say- “seriously? You enjoyed that?” And to them I say, “Yes”. And here’s why- when I see a movie, I want to be entertained. I don’t want to be lectured at or made to feel bad. To me, a movie is entertainment and therefore I should leave the theater feeling like I’ve had fun. I want to laugh. I want to be exhilarated. I don’t mind a few tears. But the end result of my time is that I want to have been entertained. And it doesn’t even have to be a good film (we know I adore my bad movies)- as long as I come out of it not feeling like I just wasted 2 hours of my life.
