If you could… Would you?

23 Oct

Last night I went with a friend to see a screening of the new Rachel McAdams movie, About Time (in theaters on November 8th). It was not what I expected. It was so much more. I honestly loved it. I’m not saying it was oscar caliber or anything- it’s rom com inside a dramedy; but it’s sweet and touching and funny and heartfelt. I loved it.

But it made me wonder- If you could… would you? Continue reading

I can’t be witty when I am tired. Bear with me. Just in from a a very fun concert event and though a review from me right would suck, I do want to share some. Essentially this is the important piece you need to know- Bon Jovi puts on a damn fine show. Continue reading

This week I entered the world of the voice actor at the Con Artists premiere at the Downtown Independent, LA.  The film is a mockumentary about “the madness of the convention circuit as seen through the eyes of two voice actors, who live in a sort of bubble of fame.” (Yuri Lowenthal)  You might know Yuri – one of the writers and stars of Con Artists – by his face (Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Shelf Life), but you would most certainly know him by his voice (Ben 10, Naruto, Afro Samurai).  He is not the only recognizable creator/writer behind Con Artists; but also his lovely wife, Tara Platt (Naruto, Shelf Life, Ben 10). The film follows their career as actors/voice actors, as well as the fame and fortune at the wonderful world of conventions – a.k.a. Cons( for my non convention going readers.) Continue reading

I live in LA. I have friends throughout the entertainment industry. It was only a matter of time before I was involved in some project, right?

If you said yes, gold star to you.

I recently had the opportunity to wear a few hats on the set of a short film. NerdLush friend, Tara Platt– you know, from Shelf Life, duh- gave herself a personal challenge to film and complete a short film in a 48 hour period. Putting the call out via social media, Tara put together a team of volunteers who would come together on a recent weekend to create… art. And yes, yours truly replied to the call with the following response- “not my area of expertise, but I can move things”, or something very similar. I figured an extra set of hands couldn’t hurt and if they had enough help, I’d be informed- no harm, no foul. But my help was appreciated. Continue reading

Guest Post ~~ Bringing up baby, the geek mom way.

22 Aug

The Guest Post this time comes from a NerdLush fan and friend, Jackie- she tells of raising a baby in a world of geek.
*************************************************************

Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading

It’s fun to be scared! ~ NerdLush goes to ScareLA

14 Aug

You guys have been around for a while- you know there are two things that we at NerdLush LOVE ~ conventions and Halloween. Well, there’s a new convention in town that happens to be all about Halloween! WIN!

ScareLA celebrated it’s first year with a convention in downtown LA, at the LA Mart. They took up the 2nd floor of the building with classes, workshops, panels, presentations, and booths. Emily and I opted for the cheapest, one day ticket, and so we did not have access to participate in the classes or panels, but we could wander the hall (through the booths) and around the workshop areas (to see the various projects being taught/done) and sit at the stages to enjoy the presentations. San Diego Comic-con- I survived Con Crud!

2 Aug

This is probably the last significant post we’ll do about SDCC 2013, but I wanted to do a personal round up of my time there. Last year’s post still gets regular hits, so for some reason this sort of thing is of interest.
