Last year, I was wandering around Twitter on April 12th and noticed that a lot of people that I loved/followed were all attending a party for “Yuri’s Night”. So I said to myself, “self… what is this Yuri’s Night thing and why am I not at this party?” Oh, I looked- it was completely sold out at that point; so I bookmarked it as something to look at for this year. And then I googled the event and it’s meaning. Continue reading
2014 Con Season is in full swing!
30 MarThe convention season has gone from being a late spring through early fall series of events to year round. Which makes it sort of silly to refer to it a season, but most people do not attend conventions year round- the biggest events are still centered within the traditional calendar, with smaller, regional (but good sized!) events occurring the rest of the year.
Already in 2014 we’ve seen some amazing moments happen at conventions- you all saw the pic of Stan Lee “breaking up a fight” between Lou Ferrigno and Chris Hemsworth from Wizard World Sacramento, right? Brilliant! And just this weekend, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s “Deathlok” (J. August Richards) palled around with Arrow‘s “Oliver Queen” (Stephen Amell) at Emerald City Comic-con. Astute fans also remember Richards as “Mr. Blank” in a first season episode of Arrow (he was merciless!). Continue reading
Popped the Paley Fest Cherry- Sleepy Hollow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. take the stage
28 MarThe Paley Fest is an amazing experience for fans to interact with their favorite shows. The 2014 festival is underway and NerdLush made it over for two of our favorite freshman shows- FOX’s Sleepy Hollow and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The bonus for us is that both shows have recently had posts here because they quickly became favorites this year.
The Paley Fest has been growing over the last several years- similar to how SDCC has grown immensely over the last few years- and this year moved to a new home at the Dolby Theatre. This is the home of the Academy Awards- and it looks MUCH larger on TV then it is in person. But it is a beautiful theatre and adds opportunity to increase the size of the audience. Continue reading
Hear ye! Hear ye! Hey you- you like Batman, right?
8 FebWell, I know you do. And that means that I’m going to use today’s post to bring something to your attention.
Well, actually, not me- my friend Travis Langley is. You may know Dr. Langley from twitter as Superherologist, or from his book “Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight”. I know him from both, but also as a forensic psychologist (which is my field, as well) and someone I deeply respect.
Recently, Dr. Langley has been pushing for recognition for the silent creator of the Batman. What? You didn’t know Bob Kane had help? Well, you aren’t alone!
To help get the word out about Bill Finger and his role- especially as this year would be Finger’s 100th birthday- Dr. Langley and a few others in the know are working on a kickstarter to create a documentary.
I could say more, but honestly the kickstarter page says it so much better than I could. Please go, check out the campaign, consider contributing, and at the very least share the page with others! Help get the word out!
Highlights of 2013, a NerdLush year in review
13 JanMany thanks to Emily for starting the year off with a drunk year in review. Made me laugh. But I’m poking my head in now with a slightly more serious look back at 2013 and where it took NerdLush. As well as some of the favorites, as voted on by fans. Continue reading
An Open Letter of Love & Thanks…
16 DecI have no particular topic to write about today- at least not in the sense of sharing my thoughts on a TV show, film, album, fandom, or other geeky tidbit. No, today I am going to take a minute and wish minion #1, Stewart, a very happy birthday. Continue reading
Yes, I am easily amused. But this is damn entertaining. And AWESOME.
8 DecYes, I’ve been slacking on this but in my defense… I’ve been busy. Below find the hilarious video of NerdLush’s own Emily performing the one woman show of Les Miz at the NerdLush Halloween Extravaganza 2013. This seems to be the closing number for our karaoke parties. I’m OK with that.
Long Beach Comic Con… it’s all about the Bat Nipples.
26 NovWhat? You didn’t spend your weekend talking about bat nipples with random strangers? Well, then… you are missing out. There was also a conversation about Wolverine and self-love but I’ll leave that to your imaginations.
The simple fact is I went to Long Beach Comic Con this weekend and had a lot of fun. Continue reading
