If I Can Just Have 5 Minutes Of Your Time~ Web Series reviews, issue 1, Vampire Mob

30 Jul

When I started this site back in March, one of the things I knew I wanted to do was showcase and review things like comics and web series. Well, Stewart accepted the challenge of looking at comics with his ongoing series, As Long As I Don’t Wear Tights Or Spandex, so now I want to get started with a look at web series (I want to also touch on web comics, but that’s another set of posts).

I’ve gotten involved over the last few years with a lot of people that either work on or are attached in some way to a lot of different web series, and thus they keep coming to my attention. Just recently we’ve showcased Tara Platt & Yuri Lowenthal due to my work with Action Flick Chick regarding their work, Shelf Life the Series. So… these things just keep coming at me!

But for the first series up on the block, I want to share one that is near and dear to me- in part because as a supporter of it, the ups & downs of this little show have sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. But also because the creator has become a friend and really, when doing these things you should pimp your buds first, right? Thought so.

(Just to be safe… there might be spoilers)

Random Questions with Amelia!

28 Jul

If you’ve been paying attention than you know we’re right in the middle of posting an interview with  that saucy minx, Amelia Tyler! I’m being mean and holding off a wee bit before posting the concluding piece- but to help tide you over, here’s a set of random questions I posed to her! I posed similar questions to Tara Platt & Yuri Lowenthal in conjunction with my Action Flick Chick interview with them– they went over so well, it’s definitely going to be a regular thing here at NerdLush! Let me tell you why I love Leverage

So the fifth season of TNT’s Leverage is off to a fine start and now that the hullabaloo of SDCC has died down, I can move on to discussing new topics- which translates to: I want to talk to y’all about my love for Leverage. Nerdplosion episode 5~ the link!

24 Jul

Eh, this is a short one to share- if you haven’t already seen- that my SDCC post written for Action Chick went up recently- wherein I lament the lines, avoid Con Crud, and share what it’s like to attend (for those who’ve never been). Not much else to share in regards to this… I think that this finishes up the SDCC craziness for another year and thus you may now return to regularly scheduled lives. I hope you’ve enjoyed the tidbits and info as much as we here at NerdLush have enjoyed putting stuff together for you!

FARSCAPE Revisited Mini-caps / Season 1, Episodes 13-16

22 Jul

Theme music time!  I wonder if you can yodel this tune?

Stewart here…and fair warning, some spoilers lie within…

Welcome back, fellow travelers of the Uncharted Territories, for another mini-cap on Farscape.  We’re now past the midway point of season one, and the escaped prisoners on Moya have been having quite a time.  In the last mini-cap alone, Aeryn got some of Pilot’s DNA in her (along with some leftovers afterwards), D’Argo starts trying to stop being a jerkoff to John, Zhaan had to deal with Delvian insanity, and, oh yeah, Moya’s pregnant.  Yep, a living spaceship is expecting.  So with that, let’s get to it. NerdLush Asks~ Interview With a Voice Actress… (part 1!)

20 Jul

Back in the summer of 2008, when I first joined the world of twitter, I somehow became connected to a lovely woman in the UK- Amelia Tyler. Turned out the Amelia was an actress and a bit of a geek. We hit it off swimmingly. For the life of me, I cannot remember what started it but I’m glad it did. In my continuing adventures interviewing interesting people, I thought it’d be fun to touch base with Amelia and learn a thing or two about voice acting. As you’ll read, I opted to focus on that area because I feel like the public has a decent understanding more general acting but perhaps doesn’t know a lot about the more focused area of voice acting. Personally, I have a learned a lot in just the last year as I’ve gotten to know more and more actors and seen some BTS exploring the creation of characters. Definitely a more… demanding(?) style then I had thought. Which makes sense considering that everything the actor has to convey has to be done using just the words you are saying and how you say them. So let’s get some insight into Amelia and this world~ Continue reading

Site News!

19 Jul

Made a quick update to the ABOUT page and added the rest of my crew. 🙂

And if you haven’t poked your nose over to the Fangirl Squee ~ Oh, the People I’ve Met page… it, too, has been updated. So far, it’s just the people I’ve met… but I should poke the rest of the crew and get them to share their pics too. 🙂

I hate posting on off days but I don’t think this post is important enough to make y’all wait. HAHA. I just wanted to point out the updates. And please… we welcome all comments and LIKES on posts… make my authors feel like someone is reading! I know you are- I can see the stats. But it’d be nice to hear from ya.

Post of EPICNESS… or how I spent my SDCC 2012 vacation

18 Jul

I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what to write for Action Chick’s site in regards to SDCC 2012 because I was there as a representative of sorts for her site. Unfortunately, within hours of heading south, every interview we had scheduled ended up not being a GO. This was fine- it opened up my schedule immensely! But on the other hand… it would’ve been a lot easier to write up some interviews and feel like I earned my keep than to try to write up TWO experience posts. I mean- I had  to write something for my own site, right?

I’ve already thanked Stewart, but once more won’t hurt- Thanks. 🙂 He did a great job of collecting the key points and putting them together in daily posts. Heck! I was onsite and he had some info that I didn’t know. As I’d mentioned before I made the pilgrimage, I wasn’t sure what the internet situation would be during the week- so it was nice to know that someone was minding the site. 🙂 Continue reading

Where’s the science?, take 2

16 Jul

A few weeks ago I was inspired by conversations with friends and the constant rumblings in my head to write a post asking where the science in my science fiction was. The response was great! And essentially it came down to the audience, money, and storytelling. Which is to say that most audiences don’t care if there’s sound in space (people actually complained when Whedon’s Serenity was silent in space!), money issues say that production needs to move faster and thus not focus on reality but instead- tell the story. And on that note, the story may use some realism but to be completely realistic may slow the story or add too much depth/bulk when it’s better for the story to use quick basics.

It makes me sad, but I understand. I just think that sometimes a bit more realistic science would be nice. Continue reading

Nerdplosion~ episode 4… I (sort of) Survived SDCC!

16 Jul

Just a quick post to let you know that yes, your hostess survived the annual nerd pilgrimage. I want to thank Stewart for stepping up and providing great news posts! I will be writing something ASAP to share the on-sight experience. And did you get a chance to read Emily’s addition?

I also want to mention that the interview I alluded to in the recent Random Questions post– talking with Tara & Yuri from Shelf Life, the series, went live on Action Flick Chick the other day. You can find part 1 here and part 2 here. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as we enjoyed doing it! It was a laugh riot- seriously. And definitely check out Shelf Life!

I’m exhausted from days on end of geekiness and crowds, so I’m going to take my brother back up north and then veg today as I get my thoughts in order. I’m afraid if I sit to write anything right now… it would end up pretty much gibberish!
