It’s been quite a while since a post focused only music but as the topic of this post has been one of the top albums for several weeks, it’s about time we came back to this series. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has spawned a huge following- just this weekend it officially became the highest grossing film of the summer in the US- and at least a tiny part of that has to be attributed to the amazingly fun soundtrack, the Awesome Mix Vol. 1. Eliz to the beth just posted that someone should write an end of year something and I said that I could do it while drunk and SHE said DO IT so here I am after a litre of cider, some cake vodka shots, and half a bottle of expired sangria. I haven’t had much alcohol since starting my ketogenic diet, so I have like zero tolerance now. Which is pretty sad but cost effective, I guess.
So the year in review! I’m probably the least liely person to do this because a) I have the memory of a goldfish and b) I rarely get out to do things but whatever. I’m here so let’s go! Continue reading
Holidays are here again!
20 DecWe’re just days away from Christmas and the New Year. Hanukkah and Thanksgiving are already passed- and joyous they were! And Kwanzaa is just around the corner as well.
Personally, I’m heading home to spend the next couple of weeks loafing around at my moms. Awwww, bliss.

Marian Call: Part 1 – The Interview
2 NovIf you’re not aware of who Marian Call is, she’s a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter residing in Juneau, Alaska. Her songs are about making a home in Alaska, Science Fiction and living life as a geek and last year she launched a Kickstarter campaign in an attempt to tour Europe, within 3 hours the target of $11,111 was met and by the end of the campaign a total of $63,301 was raised and Marian toured Europe, produced a Live in Europe album and recently released this epic video shot on location at the Space Expo in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
Wanted… Dead or Alive… preferably alive, though.

Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading
