Feisty Uber Fans still scare me

2 Dec

Last year… or maybe it was earlier this year?- whatever. PreviouslyI have written about uber fans and how they frighten me because of their obsession with their fandom. Well… I’ve found another group that make fans look bad.

Those who constantly request (read- BEG) celebs to follow them. Continue reading

Man of Steel, take 2

30 Nov

The other day I was sitting around with a friend who admitted he had not seen the recent Superman film, Man of Steel. I saw it in the theater when it came out- didn’t love it- but I had recently gotten the blu-ray (not because I felt it had likely improved or that my opinion had changed but because I own all the Superman films, even Quest for Peace) and it was determined that we should watch it. So we did.

My opinion has not changed; it still isn’t a good Superman film. Continue reading

Giving Thanks

28 Nov

Today in the United States is a day set aside as a day to give thanks and be with family and friends. As I firmly believe you should be thankful everyday, I prefer to take Thanksgiving as a time spent with family. However, I wanted to take a few minutes to make a list of some of the many things I am thankful for-

Long Beach Comic Con… it’s all about the Bat Nipples.

26 Nov

What? You didn’t spend your weekend talking about bat nipples with random strangers? Well, then… you are missing out. There was also a conversation about Wolverine and self-love but I’ll leave that to your imaginations.

The simple fact is I went to Long Beach Comic Con this weekend and had a lot of fun.  Continue reading

Theatrical Reminiscences and Meanderings

24 Nov

Recently, while speaking to an acquaintance, I learned that he had never been to a play. That day was his 31st birthday and he was going to see his first play that evening. This kind of blew my mind because I have been attending theatrical productions as long as I can remember. My first “job” was working technical positions for the local amateur theatre company.

In fact, one of the first movies I remember marathoning was a play. Continue reading

Long Beach Comic-con

20 Nov

This weekend is Long Beach Comic-con. NerdLush will be in attendance. It’s our first time. Our friend Steve Scott will be there (very excited as we haven’t gotten together in a few years!).

I’m itching to get some new interviews, so hopefully we’ll be able to make that happen while we are there. Fingers Crossed!

It’s seems like there should be plenty of fun cosplayers. And the guest list looks pretty good. So… I’m excited. Or not… as I’m sure to not get a lot of rest. But… that’s fun too.

My non-spoilery THOR: THE DARK WORLD review

12 Nov

Look, if you haven’t seen Thor: the Dark World yet, you really need to. I mean, if you like superhero movies. I won’t spoil you with any details here- but the gist of my review is that if you like this sort of thing, you should go see it.

Oh, BBC, why can’t I quit you?!?!???

10 Nov

Sigh.

I love the BBC.

But I also hate them.

Seriously.

They make me love a television series- like, love love- and then they kill me because there are only six episodes. Or 13. Or maybe 20. And the series ran for multiple years… but that’s all there is. Why, BBC? Don’t you want me to be happy? Continue reading

Geek Into Shape – The D word.

6 Nov

The main thing I’ve heard over and over again throughout the years of my own personal battle has been the simple equation of:

Energy In = Energy Out (+ Body Stores)

So if you eat more food than you need, you’re gonna gain weight. Eat less, lose weight. Do more activity, lose weight, etc. What that simple phrase doesn’t tell you however is that energy expenditure means increase of appetite (well, it does for me—again EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT!) and emotional food triggers (for me: stress!) equals a damn hard time of keeping that simple equation throughout the day. Plus add an over abundance of pre-packed food designed to be extra delicious with added fat and sugar, convenient delivery or drive through food sources for the busy lifestyle, and the siren call of television, computer games, and the internet- it’s no wonder that a majority of us are fighting the bulge. The NerdLush Cosplay Rules, an update.

4 Nov

Last year, I published my rules for cosplaying via a post for Action Flick Chick. Since the basic rules became known, I’ve been thinking about additions. But until the other day, I hadn’t figured out what the next set of rules were. Well… this weekend, Emily and I (though D2 and Catie were also in attendance) attended Stan Lee’s Comikaze. This is our third trek to this event, but this was the first time we’d dressed up. Continue reading
