SUMMERTIME VIEWING 2012, PART 1 — What Might Be Worth Your TV Viewing Time This Summer

2 Jun

Stewart here…

Usually I take the summertime to either catch up on TV or revisit some old favorites, and this summer, I may have a bit less time to do so.  Besides the big slew of cable shows coming back over the next few months, like Burn Notice (anything with Bruce Campbell tends to get a free pass with me), Leverage (not a show I kept up with every season, but will try to if I can this summer), Femme Fatales (and no, I didn’t mention it here just because one of the writers on this website was on the show, OK?), and True Blood (a show that is losing its bite -rim shot- with me).  So, I thought I’d spotlight a few new and old shows worth checking out for you geeks out there, if only because some of the names involved might pique your interest: Continue reading

FanGirl Squee… what is your favorite geeky treasure?

Recently several friends attended C2E2 in Chicago. Since it was my birthday, and they are awesome friends, I received many texts and photos of their fun. Continue reading

As Long As I Don’t Wear Tights or Spandex, Issue 1 — SAGA

25 May

Stewart here…

As much as I love a decent comic and been a big comic book reader since I was a little tot, I appreciate it when someone goes and tries to do something beyond the superhero genre.  But, there is still a bit of the stigma that comics are just for kids or adults in arrested development (and those people who believe that are usually speaking out of their ass).  So, for those of who are not big fans of heroes in tights or just want a change from the norm, I’m taking a few paragraphs to spotlight comics that you may want to check out either monthly, collected, or in digital form.  With that out of the way, let’s get to it… Continue reading

Femme Fatales Premiere Coverage… OMG! James Gunn!

23 May

You may recall that last week AFC ran my interview with several of the ladies from Cinemax’s Femme Fatales– as a capper to that interview I was asked to cover the season two premiere. The write-up for that is up on AFC. This would be my first on-site press gig as the interviewer (remember, for Spartacus, I took the photos) and would also be attending the screening and after-party… so I tracked down someone to be my assistant for this event- my friend Phil Xenidis (you might know him better as rock god, Phil X formerly of Powder, currently playing with his band The Drills and with so many other awesome artists). As I laughed with a mutual friend the other day- last year, he was playing with Bon Jovi, now he’s my bitch. Ha! But in all seriousness- I have to give Phil a lot of love for his help. He took some great photos for me and it was great to have a friend to hang out with. Continue reading

FanGirl Squee… Convention season is upon us!

19 May

Alright… the season isn’t really a season anymore as there are great conventions throughout the year and all over the country, but back in the day starting with Easter and running through Labor Day, it was convention season.  Continue reading

Geek cred… I come by it honestly

7 May

So… I was born to be a geek. There really was no way to stop it. My mother was Star Trek TOS fan and my father… well, that’s not important. My mother has told me many times about watching the moonlanding with Grandpa. And I fondly remember playing pong on Grandpa’s computer… the one before his Commodore 64. Continue reading

Week of Geek

25 Apr

Probably won’t make many posts like this often as adventures tend to get their own posts and not a jumbled collection… but this week has been full of mini geekery and I feel like sharing some of it. Continue reading

CosPlay by the Rules!

23 Apr

So… years ago I was at SDCC with my brother and while waiting in line for a panel (the big line, for Ballroom 20) we started discussing the people CosPlaying that walked by. This conversation led to my Rules for CosPlaying. I’ve fine tuned them since then and after my recent visit to WonderCon 2012, I wrote them up for AFC. 🙂 (AFC has a bigger audience so it was the better choice for posting, in case you were wondering why the original post is there and not here). In any case- it’s a humorous read, but I am very serious about every point I make. And if you CosPlay, or know someone who does, or even if you just like to dress up for Halloween, these rules may save your day! Check it out- leave comments!

FanGirl Squee- What would you ask?

21 Apr

In the not-too-distant future, I am going to set up an interview with Lloyd Kaufman. If you don’t know who that is, you should probably cancel your nerd subscription. In any case, I recently met him

Met Lloyd Kaufman and James Gunn at WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim

and have since had some awesome moments in Twitter conversations. So… I will pursue the opportunity to interview Mr. Kaufman. For this site and perhaps AFC.

So… my question is this- what would you ask him? The best questions will be used.

Last week, an old friend posted part 1 of his review of the original V Miniseries (which is STILL a favorite of mine) and I linked it here because I thought it was worth sharing. Over the weekend, he posted part 2 and I’m linking now so that you can all check it out too.

If you don’t remember watching the series when it aired or even on the re-airings on NBC and then on Sci-Fi/SyFy, or you’ve never actually seen it- check out the series. It was such an amazing piece of work. I can still remember watching with my family and then running off to recess the next day to play as the characters. And having a brief twitter convo with Jane Badler a year or so ago regarding my finding the Visitor jumpsuits in the Warner Brothers costume warehouse… honestly, that was a geek highlight of my life!
