Who are YOU really?

16 Jul

Have you ever watched a movie/TV show and flipped out because you are so used to seeing that actor as another character? For instance, Princess Diaries 2 pits Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) against Smallville‘s Major Zod (Callum Blue) for the hand of Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). It’s just weird.

I saw a meme a few months ago that hits home with this idea- Continue reading

2014 Emmy Nomination’s… do you agree?

10 Jul

This morning, the nominations for the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced. Admittedly, I have been very limited in watch I watch due to time and accessibility, but… I have to admit that I think they missed quite a few worthy nominations. Even if they didn’t win, there are still episodes and performances that should have been given the recognition of the nomination. Continue reading

San Diego Comic-con 2014

26 Jun

The annual event in San Diego is rapidly approaching. Sadly, NerdLush does not appear to have an onsite representative this year. I have been going the last few years attached to the fabulous Action Flick Chick and would be there this year with the Psychology of Cult TV panel however my real life decided to conflict. The panel is scheduled for Thursday and will be awesome, so I want to encourage you to go to it. Even without my smiling face.

Light & Dark… Black & White… Good & Bad… who would you rather be?

20 Jun

Last year I wanted to learn more about creating “crazy” characters and utilized social media to reach out to actors, writers, and creators in order to learn the different perspectives. As a mental health professional, I have found that I lose a bit when I watch something as I tend to sit and observe the characters- looking to diagnose, to see their flaws, to learn who they are, etc. Usually I can turn it off and focus on the story but sometimes it is harder than others. Especially after a long day with clients.

Time for a little Pomp & Circumstance

14 Jun

In my real life I work at a place that understands celebrating accomplishments. Last night, I attended the semi-regular (i.e. occurring three times a year) graduation ceremony for those who have completed the program. It isn’t easy- more people fail or leave before they ever reach this milestone- so the celebration is important. On a personal note, I worked closely with four of the graduates over the last year and it was amazing to see them have their moment to shine. One was even valedictorian! Continue reading

Midnight Movie Madness! — a brief reflection

12 Jun

Stewart here…

A realization just dawned on me not too long ago: it has been twenty-five years since I saw my first movie at a midnight showing.  These days with some big summer movies having showings the day before at 8 PM or so, its easy to forget the earliest showing most people could get for a big studio blockbuster was at midnight.  For me, that first experience with a summer movie at midnight came in 1989 (another article I’ll have to get to, seeing how BIG that summer turned out to be), and that movie was…

Why Smallville will always be my own personal kryptonite

10 Jun

If you’ve been paying attention you know that we love our superheroes here at NerdLush HQ. And Superman is one of our favorites (though we have equal love, apparently, for all DC and Marvel characters). We could (and probably should) sit around as a group and debate the merits of each Superman and it would likely be quite the entertaining roundtable. But since the crew is scattered, it isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

None of that is why I am here today… I want to talk about why Smallville will always hold a special place in my heart. Continue reading

The end (or is it the beginning) of another award season

6 Jun

It seems like Hollywood- or more accurately, the entertainment industry- spends the entire year patting themselves on the back and handing out awards. Honestly, I only watch one of these shows anymore- the same people/projects seem to win over and over… so there really isn’t a draw for me. But this weekend is the one show I try to catch every year- The Tony Awards.

ARROW Season 2 review

27 May

arrow-00002

Welcome back, Arrow-heads! Covering this recent season of Arrow, I thought it would fun to go back and review the season as a whole.  To make it easier, I thought I’d follow the formula with the look back on season one, and point out the good and bad of season two.  So, let’s start with the good: Continue reading
