Every year there is at least one TV show that squeezes it’s way into my viewing schedule and steals my heart. In the 2012-2013 season it was Arrow. After seeing the pilot- which I loved- it was clear that the show could go either way. It could suck, burning and dying in an insane death, or it could be awesome. And it was AWESOME. So in the fall of 2013, Fox introduced a show that should’ve died after the second or third episode… but it didn’t.
Why I adore Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
8 MarIt’s no secret that I am a fan of all things Whedon and Marvel, nor is it a secret that when I saw the pilot ep for S.H.I.E.L.D. at San Diego Comic Con 2013 I may have squee’d like a crazy puppy (ask my brother). But like others, I drifted over the next few episodes after the premiere last fall. I mean… I was still in for the season, but I didn’t feel the energy that I felt with the pilot.
I still love 80’s movies, part deux!
22 FebI’m back with more 80’s movies that I love. Many of the movies on my list are in my current DVD collection (or they were in my VHS collection), but they are all things that I’ll watch over and over when I land on them on cable… Continue reading
I still love 80’s movies!
16 FebThe other day I was linked to an article that claimed 80’s movies were better than today. I agreed with every point they made and it inspired me to think about my favorite 80s movies. I thought about making a top ten list, but I really couldn’t rank the titles that I loved- my love for them changes daily. So I thought I would take a post, or two, and list out some of my favorite films from my childhood. I would love to hear some of your favorites and/or your thoughts on these films in the comments! Is there a war on Westerns?
14 FebWhen was the last time Hollywood made a good Western? The early 90s with Unforgiven, probably. Though the two Earp movies from that time period were good too. But it’s like Hollywood lost the ability to create a Western. Which is sort of insane considering that the genre exists because Hollywood was the master of the Western for generations.
Hear ye! Hear ye! Hey you- you like Batman, right?
8 FebWell, I know you do. And that means that I’m going to use today’s post to bring something to your attention.
Well, actually, not me- my friend Travis Langley is. You may know Dr. Langley from twitter as Superherologist, or from his book “Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight”. I know him from both, but also as a forensic psychologist (which is my field, as well) and someone I deeply respect.
Recently, Dr. Langley has been pushing for recognition for the silent creator of the Batman. What? You didn’t know Bob Kane had help? Well, you aren’t alone!
To help get the word out about Bill Finger and his role- especially as this year would be Finger’s 100th birthday- Dr. Langley and a few others in the know are working on a kickstarter to create a documentary.
I could say more, but honestly the kickstarter page says it so much better than I could. Please go, check out the campaign, consider contributing, and at the very least share the page with others! Help get the word out!
Attention! NerdLush Crew opening!!
4 FebI’ve never actually recruited anyone for the NerdLush Crew- everyone has always been a guest poster or I’ve just decided they needed to post for the site. Continue reading
Nerd Adventures- San Diego on a dime!
31 JanI’ve had to run around southern California a lot recently and I’ve been trying to do so at the best travel times as possible- to decrease stress levels, of course. But yesterday I had to run down to San Diego (around 120 or so miles from my place) and had to be there at a specific time… which meant that if I didn’t do it right, I’d hit traffic and go nuts. Continue reading
Television Graveyard- plot 6, Veritas: The Quest
27 JanI recently watched the Syfy series, Haven, and we know what happens when I do that, right? I tend to find an actor that I like and watch all the things. Well, I lucked out and didn’t find an actor but rather rediscovered one I’d already enjoyed but missed several things. Well, I’m partial to particular things so I opted to watch a series I remember starting and then losing track of (probably because ABC bounced it around and then canceled it before it was truly given a chance)… I give you- Veritas: The Quest!
Little Piece of Heaven in Haven
21 JanOnce again, I’m late to the party. Sometimes it really sucks to be a poor grad student with no TV, but then I remember NetFlix and Hulu and that everything I want to see will eventually be available there. Last year I finally checked out Eureka and Primeval (and it’s spinoff). So this year, during my recent enforced rest due to injury, I finally started watching Syfy’s Haven.
I’ve zipped through the available four seasons like I was marathoning an old favorite! Continue reading
