Popped the Paley Fest Cherry- Sleepy Hollow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. take the stage

28 Mar

The Paley Fest is an amazing experience for fans to interact with their favorite shows. The 2014 festival is underway and NerdLush made it over for two of our favorite freshman shows- FOX’s Sleepy Hollow and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The bonus for us is that both shows have recently had posts here because they quickly became favorites this year.

The Paley Fest has been growing over the last several years- similar to how SDCC has grown immensely over the last few years- and this year moved to a new home at the Dolby Theatre. This is the home of the Academy Awards- and it looks MUCH larger on TV then it is in person. But it is a beautiful theatre and adds opportunity to increase the size of the audience. Continue reading

Guest Post!!~ I love 80’s movies, part cuatro- The Bad Ones

22 Mar

NerdLush friend, Jackie, is back with another guest post– this time she chimes in with her love for those 80’s movies that are so bad… you just have to love them!

********************************************************************************

I love movies.

I will watch nearly any movie at least once. Okay, maybe twice, probably three times. I hold a special place in my heart for 80s movies. In fact, I have a rather large collection of movies that were made in the 80s. I hold an even deeper, more special place in my heart for BAD 80s movies. I don’t know why, but I just adore 80s movies with cheesy plotlines, bad acting and horrible special effects and costumes. Continue reading

Guest post!~ More Blood, More Sweat, and More Abs: A Spartan Tale Continues

18 Mar

Our pal  Marc is back with another guest post! Marc watches a lot of movies and reviews them on TwoOhSix.com all while defying the conventions of what a “movie critic” is typically supposed to be.

*****************************************************************************

In 2006, Zack Snyder’s 300 debuted with a brutally brilliant visual style that captured the attention of audiences around the world and now, 300: Rise of an Empire is here to fill in even more of the hyper stylized story surrounding the infamous 300 Spartan soldiers who defied an army and gave their lives for a nation. Noam Murro takes over directing duties while Lena Heady, Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, and Callan Mulvey round out the extremely athletic cast.

Nerd Adventures- Solvang, take 2

16 Mar

In NerdLush’s first year, Emily and I took a day trip from LA and ran over to Solvang for some entertainment. It was quite a lovely day of fun and silliness.  Continue reading

NerdLush Asks ~ Artist Steve Scott interviewed at Long Beach Comic-con

14 Mar

Admittedly, it’s been a while since this video was filmed at Long Beach Comic-con last fall, but it’s never too late to share it and learn a little from an amazing comic artist and NerdLush friend. Steve Scott is probably best known as a Batman artist, prior to the “new 52”, however he has quite the library of works that he has been a part of. I met Steve a few years ago at Wizard World New Orleans, and for some reason our insanities clicked and we’ve been friends. Always a pleasure to see his work. Continue reading

Guest Blog~ Geek Mom Worries

4 Mar

NerdLush friend, Jackie, is back with another guest post about raising a geek baby.

***************************************************************

As a geek mom raising a geek baby can be both exciting and frustrating. My daughter just turned 1 and I love introducing her to new things and experiences. I can’t wait as she grows to read some of my favorite books, share my favorite movies, and watch her develop her inner geek. It will be fascinating to watch. Will she like comic books? Superheroes? DC or Marvel? What will her favorite show be? Book? Movie? Which Doctor will she like the most? Will she love going to comic cons and immersing herself in the geek atmosphere? Or will she grow up and reject it all? No matter what her decision is, I just want to make sure she’s well informed and will love whatever it is that she decides to ….well…love. Continue reading

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hey you- you like Batman, right?

8 Feb

Well, I know you do. And that means that I’m going to use today’s post to bring something to your attention.

Well, actually, not me- my friend Travis Langley is. You may know Dr. Langley from twitter as Superherologist, or from his book “Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight”. I know him from both, but also as a forensic psychologist (which is my field, as well) and someone I deeply respect.

Recently, Dr. Langley has been pushing for recognition for the silent creator of the Batman. What? You didn’t know Bob Kane had help? Well, you aren’t alone!

To help get the word out about Bill Finger and his role- especially as this year would be Finger’s 100th birthday- Dr. Langley and a few others in the know are working on a kickstarter to create a documentary.

I could say more, but honestly the kickstarter page says it so much better than I could. Please go, check out the campaign, consider contributing, and at the very least share the page with others! Help get the word out!

Holy cow, Batman!

Nerd Adventures- San Diego on a dime!

31 Jan

I’ve had to run around southern California a lot recently and I’ve been trying to do so at the best travel times as possible- to decrease stress levels, of course. But yesterday I had to run down to San Diego (around 120 or so miles from my place) and had to be there at a specific time… which meant that if I didn’t do it right, I’d hit traffic and go nuts.  Continue reading

Highlights of 2013, a NerdLush year in review

13 Jan

Many thanks to Emily for starting the year off with a drunk year in review. Made me laugh. But I’m poking my head in now with a slightly more serious look back at 2013 and where it took NerdLush. As well as some of the favorites, as voted on by fans. Continue reading
