The Wonderousness of WonderCon 2014… or how Easter Weekend is going to need a week to recover from

21 Apr

The con season is off to a brilliant start and NerdLush spent this Easter weekend in sunny Anaheim wandering the halls of WonderCon for the third year. Three significant differences from the prior years- a) rather than just going for Sunday, we went for all 3 days, b) rather than being only at the hall and otherwise being at home- we had a hotel room, and c) instead of just being fans, press, or otherwise wandering around innocently, I had been asked to be part of a panel on “The Psychology of Cult TV”. The latter piece will be covered in a separate post because honestly, I don’t remember much of it- my first panel… I was nervous! BUT! I have been told it (and I) was very good. And it felt pretty awesome. Continue reading

SMALLVILLE Minicaps / Season 7, Eps. 9-12

19 Apr
The Smallville season 7 minicaps could go a while without hearing Jor-El warn it about "consequences", thank you.

The Smallville season 7 minicaps could go a while without hearing Jor-El warn it about “consequences”, thank you.

Stewart here…

Clark had to deal with family trouble last time as mean zenophobic uncle Zor-El is replicated and almost lays waste to Earth.  Zor-El’s destroyed, but not before Kara is dumped in Detroit somehow with no memory and Jor-El tells Clark there will be consequences for his actions bringing Zor-El and his mom, Lara, back briefly.  Meanwhile, Lois is starting a relationship with Daily Planet editor Grant Gabriel, who is also known to Lex as his supposedly dead brother Julian Luthor!  The Luthors have their own trouble, thanks to Lana trying to destroy Lex behind Clark and Chloe’s back.  But wait, what happened to Clark after that flash of light and warning from Jor-El? Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  Slade’s been upping his campaign on Ollie big time, by laying some truth bombs on people.  He’s told Thea about her real dad, and Laurel about who the Arrow really is.  Besides that, he’s shanghaied a bus full of prisoners for part of his master plan.  And also, since Ollie was busy trying to recover Thea, he gave over temporary control of the family company to Isabel, who immediately seized control and revealed herself to be one of Slade’s conspirators!  Plus, Quentin’s in prison, Thea wants nothing to do with her family, and Roy has skipped town.  So, now what? Hunting the Wild Barrowman

15 Apr

One would think that this mission- a picture with John Barrowman- would not be a difficult task, but this is a mission 5 years in the making! But in order to tell the story, I have to start at the beginning-

Captain-Jack-Harkness-John-barrowman-and-David-Tennant-doctor-who-34840887-600-480In the fall of 2006, I had uprooted myself from sunny California to the great city of Chicago in order to complete a masters degree. Through the social networking and fandoms at the time, I was blessed with friends all over the world- but none in Chicago. The closest people I knew were relatives in Wisconsin (who I didn’t really know) and a dear friend at the southern end of Illinois. So… as I waited for classes to start and semi wandered the city to acclimate myself, I also dug into shows and movies that I had missed. One such was the 2005 Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston. Now I remember watching DW as a kid on PBS (though I couldn’t tell you who my first Doctor was) and I know I watched the 1996 telefilm on FOX with the 8th Doctor, but I really didn’t know much about the series. Television Graveyard- plot 7, The Dresden Files

11 Apr

Following my recent Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. marathon, I marathoned Arrow– which as you know, is a favorite here at NerdLush. And my adoration for Paul Blackthorne was awakened… additionally, he has been super awesome to NerdLush on twitter, which warms the black pits of my hearts. Of course, this means that I pulled out a favorite single season television series- The Dresden Files.

In 2000, Jim Butcher introduced the character of Harry Dresden in the novel, “Storm Front”. The character, a wizard P.I., is a consultant to the Chicago Police Department- think Sam Spade but add magic. There are now over a dozen novels in print.

This is not a review- It’s All Connected!!

5 Apr

This is not a review. I cannot stress that enough.

I am currently incapable of writing a review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier because my brain is still processing. And squeeing. A lot of squees are happening in my brain.

So this is not a review. Continue reading

Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  So here’s what you need to know: Roy has to break up with Thea because Ollie said so, and guess what happens after that?  Slade kidnaps Thea!  And hey, doesn’t Ollie run a company while going out at night fighting baddies?  We got a lot of twists to get to, so let’s just jump in… Continue reading

Popped the Paley Fest Cherry- Sleepy Hollow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. take the stage

28 Mar

The Paley Fest is an amazing experience for fans to interact with their favorite shows. The 2014 festival is underway and NerdLush made it over for two of our favorite freshman shows- FOX’s Sleepy Hollow and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The bonus for us is that both shows have recently had posts here because they quickly became favorites this year.

The Paley Fest has been growing over the last several years- similar to how SDCC has grown immensely over the last few years- and this year moved to a new home at the Dolby Theatre. This is the home of the Academy Awards- and it looks MUCH larger on TV then it is in person. But it is a beautiful theatre and adds opportunity to increase the size of the audience. Continue reading

ARROW Season 2×17, “Birds of Prey” recap

arrow-00002

Welcome back, Arrow-heads! Some things you might want to remember going into this one: last time we saw Helena Bertinelli aka The Huntress was when she took Ollie’s cop girlfriend out of commission while trying to kill her father.  She got stopped by Arrow, and daddy Frank escaped to…somewhere.  Also, now that Laurel is going to AA and has stopped blaming everyone for her issues, she’s looking for employment.  Oh, and Slade Wilson is going to kill Ollie and everyone he knows.  Just keeping things in perspective.
