Welcome back, Arrow-heads! Covering this recent season of Arrow, I thought it would fun to go back and review the season as a whole. To make it easier, I thought I’d follow the formula with the look back on season one, and point out the good and bad of season two. So, let’s start with the good: Continue reading

ARROW Season 2×23, “Unthinkable” recap
15 MayWelcome back, Arrow-heads! Well, here’s what we need to remember before we get to this last episode of the season: Starling City’s under siege by Slade’s supermen, Sebastian Blood’s dead, Ollie has the Mirakuru cure, and none of this may matter if Amanda Waller’s drone strike on the city happens in a few hours! ARROW Season 2×22, “Streets of Fire” recap
7 MayWelcome back, Arrow-heads! So the proverbial crap has hit the proverbial fan. Ollie’s in a bit of a funk after Moira’s death, but gets put right by Team Arrow and…Laurel? Yeah, she gives him enough motivation to get back to the hood wearing to take down Sebastian Blood and that Mirakuru-army of his. And then Team Arrow gets sidetracked in a few ways: Ollie and Laurel being trapped in the tunnels below Starling City; Felicity getting a call from STAR Labs about that Mirakuru cure; and Diggle facing off against a really ticked off Isabel. And things get worse with Blood’s army laying siege to places like Quentin’s precinct house and the train station where Thea is, while the army makes its way into town. Ruh-Roh! Continue reading →

Join us for a drink… OTP – Olicity, Arrow, and More!
5 MayOTP – or One True Pairing – is a fandom term used to denote pairings fans believe are the best couples. This occurs throughout fandom mediums – television shows, books, movies…even “real life people”. In most fandoms, there are fanfics that are written by the fans in order to tell a story, the way they see fit. To be honest, some of the fics are quite well-written with compelling stories. Others… not so much (off-topic, but recently there was an announcement of a “One Direction” fanfic that was being published… excerpts of the book were released as well… it was painful drivel). But these fics also allow for fans to have their OTP as they see fit… something that may go against what the writers of a show or the author of a book series may want (for now anyway). The Wonderousness of WonderCon 2014… or how Easter Weekend is going to need a week to recover from
21 AprThe con season is off to a brilliant start and NerdLush spent this Easter weekend in sunny Anaheim wandering the halls of WonderCon for the third year. Three significant differences from the prior years- a) rather than just going for Sunday, we went for all 3 days, b) rather than being only at the hall and otherwise being at home- we had a hotel room, and c) instead of just being fans, press, or otherwise wandering around innocently, I had been asked to be part of a panel on “The Psychology of Cult TV”. The latter piece will be covered in a separate post because honestly, I don’t remember much of it- my first panel… I was nervous! BUT! I have been told it (and I) was very good. And it felt pretty awesome. Continue reading →

Hunting the Wild Barrowman
15 AprOne would think that this mission- a picture with John Barrowman- would not be a difficult task, but this is a mission 5 years in the making! But in order to tell the story, I have to start at the beginning-
In the fall of 2006, I had uprooted myself from sunny California to the great city of Chicago in order to complete a masters degree. Through the social networking and fandoms at the time, I was blessed with friends all over the world- but none in Chicago. The closest people I knew were relatives in Wisconsin (who I didn’t really know) and a dear friend at the southern end of Illinois. So… as I waited for classes to start and semi wandered the city to acclimate myself, I also dug into shows and movies that I had missed. One such was the 2005 Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston. Now I remember watching DW as a kid on PBS (though I couldn’t tell you who my first Doctor was) and I know I watched the 1996 telefilm on FOX with the 8th Doctor, but I really didn’t know much about the series. ARROW Season 2×08, “The Scientist” recap
6 DecWelcome back, Arrow-heads! What you should know before we start: in the island flashbacks, Ollie wants to find that super serum stuff to save Slade’s life. In the present, Moira has been found not guilty of conspiring with the dead Malcolm Merlyn, who we find out after the verdict, is not dead at all. Besides helping keep Moira out of the gas chamber, Malcolm has something else to discuss with Moira, like their lovespawn Thea! So, let’s get down to it… Continue reading →

ARROW Season 2×07, “State vs. Queen” recap
22 NovWelcome back to the party, Arrow-heads! A quick recap of things to know: Moira is about to go to trial for her involvement in the destruction in the Glades, Laurel assigns herself to the prosecution to “help Moira” (to the gas chamber if her pill popping catches up with her decision making), and Count Vertigo from season one is still in prison, and probably still quite insane. So, let’s jump right in… Continue reading →

My Catch-Up on ARROW, Part 2: Thoughts on the first season
7 OctEarlier this year, I talked about my thoughts on Arrow during its mid-season hiatus, and with the second season about to premiere this month, I thought it would be fitting to reflect back on some of the pluses and minuses of season one. There are some spoilers, so catch up before you read this: Continue reading →
