One of the great things about attending all 5 years of Stan Lee’s Comikaze is that we’ve been able to observe the convention grow and change every year. This year the event grew to having two halls of LA’s Convention Center. We noted last year that it wasn’t quite big enough for us to travel for the event to attend for multiple days- we discussed on our travels home that this year, we felt it was almost a requirement ro come multiple days.

A little diamond in the rough- Tulare SciFi Con
22 MarRecently, we had the opportunity to attend a new regional convention- the Tulare SciFi Con, in Tulare, California. The convention is new in the way that this was its second year- and we were informed by several vendors and attendees that it had grown immensely since last year.
We raise our kids to be nerds, but what about our pets?

Awkward! Don’t forget the importance of music!
12 SepHave you ever watched the deleted scenes on a DVD and scene your favorite characters having a conversation in a dance club? Awkward! It’s nothing but the dialogue fighting to be heard over the shuffling feet of extras pretending to look sexy while dancing with no music.
It should be pointed out that there is an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer were there is no background music- when Joyce dies- but it’s still gone through post production and had those awkward none relevant sounds removed so as not to pull focus from the rest of the emotionally driven episode. Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading
