Favorite Blogs!

28 Dec

OK, confession time… It’s the end of the year and I’m on vacation (so are the rest of the NerdLush crew, apparently) and I have no posts lined up. So… the most recent posts have been thought up about an hour before they are scheduled to run. But… that doesn’t mean I don’t mean what they say! Lots of good stuff, I think. I have vacation brain and would spend the entire day in my Cookie Monster footie pjs if I could.

So… today, I’ve decided to do another list and link to some of my favorite nerdy (and not so nerdy) blogs and sites. Continue reading

Happy Holidays from all of us!

24 Dec

Just a short note today- it’s a busy time of year what with family and friends and holiday fun. But we here at NerdLush wanted to be sure to wish all of you a very happy holidays- whatever you celebrate.  Continue reading

An Open Letter of Love & Thanks…

16 Dec

I have no particular topic to write about today- at least not in the sense of sharing my thoughts on a TV show, film, album, fandom, or other geeky tidbit. No, today I am going to take a minute and wish minion #1, Stewart, a very happy birthday. Continue reading

Yes, I am easily amused. But this is damn entertaining. And AWESOME.

8 Dec

Yes, I’ve been slacking on this but in my defense… I’ve been busy. Below find the hilarious video of NerdLush’s own Emily performing the one woman show of Les Miz at the NerdLush Halloween Extravaganza 2013. This seems to be the closing number for our karaoke parties. I’m OK with that.

Long Beach Comic Con… it’s all about the Bat Nipples.

26 Nov

What? You didn’t spend your weekend talking about bat nipples with random strangers? Well, then… you are missing out. There was also a conversation about Wolverine and self-love but I’ll leave that to your imaginations.

The simple fact is I went to Long Beach Comic Con this weekend and had a lot of fun.  Continue reading

Theatrical Reminiscences and Meanderings

24 Nov

Recently, while speaking to an acquaintance, I learned that he had never been to a play. That day was his 31st birthday and he was going to see his first play that evening. This kind of blew my mind because I have been attending theatrical productions as long as I can remember. My first “job” was working technical positions for the local amateur theatre company.

In fact, one of the first movies I remember marathoning was a play. Continue reading

Long Beach Comic-con

20 Nov

This weekend is Long Beach Comic-con. NerdLush will be in attendance. It’s our first time. Our friend Steve Scott will be there (very excited as we haven’t gotten together in a few years!).

I’m itching to get some new interviews, so hopefully we’ll be able to make that happen while we are there. Fingers Crossed!

It’s seems like there should be plenty of fun cosplayers. And the guest list looks pretty good. So… I’m excited. Or not… as I’m sure to not get a lot of rest. But… that’s fun too.

The NerdLush Cosplay Rules, an update.

4 Nov

Last year, I published my rules for cosplaying via a post for Action Flick Chick. Since the basic rules became known, I’ve been thinking about additions. But until the other day, I hadn’t figured out what the next set of rules were. Well… this weekend, Emily and I (though D2 and Catie were also in attendance) attended Stan Lee’s Comikaze. This is our third trek to this event, but this was the first time we’d dressed up. Continue reading

Marian Call: Part 1 – The Interview

2 Nov

If you’re not aware of who Marian Call is, she’s a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter residing in Juneau, Alaska.  Her songs are about making a home in Alaska, Science Fiction and living life as a geek and last year she launched a Kickstarter campaign in an attempt to tour Europe, within 3 hours the target of $11,111 was met and by the end of the campaign a total of $63,301 was raised and Marian toured Europe, produced a Live in Europe album and recently released this epic video shot on location at the Space Expo in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

So I went to the theatre… and learned about quantum objects.

29 Oct

I want to sit here and tell you all about NerdLush friend, Kirsten Vangsness’, one woman show, MESS, but honestly there is no way for me to describe it to you. I could tell you that it is a magical one hour plus of comedic genius- complete with musical numbers and choreography. Or I could tell you it was about kittens.

None of that actually tells you anything. But it is probably the best I can do. Continue reading
