Madden Girl: An Anti-Bullying Web Series REVIEW

3 Mar

There is nothing quite like LA traffic to make a person question whether or not their destination is worth all the trouble. I contemplated that Saturday as I sat in the parking lot known as the 101 North at 1:30pm. I was on my way to the premier of the new web series, Madden Girl. Created and starring Britt Elexandria, Madden Girl is a comedy about an overweight high-schooler constantly being bullied not only by classmates, but also by family about her weight. Besides just being a comedy, it was created in part as an anti-bullying campaign. Since it is a show and not a 30 second PSA or a one page article, the show has the ability to really delve into ways of dealing with bullying and how important it is to stand up for yourself and your friends. Television Graveyard- plot 3, The Charmings

Well, I’m back with another blink and you missed it series! Actually, this one technically had two seasons but honestly even with 19 episodes there are probably only a handful of people who remember this one.  Continue reading

Eureka! There be gold in that there TV show!

17 Dec

For years I’ve lived in a bit of a bubble- some of it by choice, most of it due to necessity. I don’t get out to movies often (those things are frickin’ expensive!). I don’t listen to the radio because everything sounds the same (my recent addiction to the broadway channel on my xm is different)(see my post on my eclectic mp3 collection). And I don’t get into too many new shows. I don’t have TV, cable or otherwise, and haven’t gotten decent reception for years… I live on DVDs and what can be found on the internet. So it kills me when people go crazy for a new show. Especially when that show doesn’t magically appear on Hulu etc to give me a chance to watch it too. Continue reading

Television Graveyard- plot 2, MR & MRS SMITH

13 Nov

Let’s take a stroll through those television series which ended prematurely- those that didn’t quite make the cut or get the chance to really give it a go. Some of my favorites rarely get the chance to get past the first few episodes- thank goodness for DVD! This weeks series ended too soon; it had barely found it’s feet before it’s time had come. However, it did get wrapped up nicely which is super rare for shows that get canned before their time. I’m talking about Mr & Mrs Smith.

If I Can Just Have 5 Minutes Of Your Time~ Web Series reviews, issue 3, Husbands, The Series

4 Sep

One of the things I want to do with this web series review posts is point out a small series that you may or may not have heard of and give each it’s moment in the spotlight. Today, I want to touch on a series from the amazing talent of Jane Espenson and Brad Bell (probably better known as Cheeks). Continue reading

Movies in a minute

27 Aug

I don’t go out to the movies often because it’s too expensive. I used to, but LA theaters pretty much require a kidney before you can get in. And since I need both of mine, well… I watch a lot more DVDs then I do films in the theater. (Unless it’s a screening)

However, in the last few weeks I’ve managed to to a few summer movies- probably spoilers here. Continue reading

mini-Nerdsplosion- This Means War

3 May

Old news now, but I had the opportunity to see a screening of the recent Reese Witherspoon flick, This Means War, and review it for AFC. This mini post is just to link you to it… Though, I will say- for the record- I enjoyed this film immensely. I didn’t go into it with high expectations, but that didn’t stop me from having a good time. If you haven’t seen it, I do recommend it. I mean… don’t shell out $20 for it. Go to the cheap theater or wait for DVD/streaming.  Unless you prefer the big fancy screens. Eh… do whatever you want. 😛

mini-Nerdsplosion- Kevin Smith edition

5 Apr

One of the events I have covered fro AFC at this point was the Kevin Smith- Live From Behind “screening”. You can read the actual write-up of it on AFC’s page. Pretty much I covered every important aspect plus my reactions to the event in that write-up. I would like to state for the record- at this time, I still have not seem any episodes of Comic Book Men, nor do I plan to.
