Last year, I published my rules for cosplaying via a post for Action Flick Chick. Since the basic rules became known, I’ve been thinking about additions. But until the other day, I hadn’t figured out what the next set of rules were. Well… this weekend, Emily and I (though D2 and Catie were also in attendance) attended Stan Lee’s Comikaze. This is our third trek to this event, but this was the first time we’d dressed up. Continue reading
Upcoming Conventions!!
1 SepVery excited to announce (though I mentioned it the other day on the twitter page) that NerdLush will be attending Stan Lee’s Comikaze 2013 and the 2013 Long Beach Comic Con this fall. We’ve attended Comikaze the last two years, but this’ll be our first time at LBCC.
So I have two questions- check the guest lists, who should we talk to? And what other SoCal events should we try to make it to?
Guest Post ~~ Bringing up baby, the geek mom way.
22 AugThe Guest Post this time comes from a NerdLush fan and friend, Jackie- she tells of raising a baby in a world of geek.
*************************************************************
Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading
It’s fun to be scared! ~ NerdLush goes to ScareLA
14 AugYou guys have been around for a while- you know there are two things that we at NerdLush LOVE ~ conventions and Halloween. Well, there’s a new convention in town that happens to be all about Halloween! WIN!
ScareLA celebrated it’s first year with a convention in downtown LA, at the LA Mart. They took up the 2nd floor of the building with classes, workshops, panels, presentations, and booths. Emily and I opted for the cheapest, one day ticket, and so we did not have access to participate in the classes or panels, but we could wander the hall (through the booths) and around the workshop areas (to see the various projects being taught/done) and sit at the stages to enjoy the presentations. You want to see some pictures??
27 JulWell, if you do, go to the facebook page and peep some of the pics from SDCC 2013.
And with that… my con crud and I are going back to bed.
PS… did you see the videos? Check the youtube playlist (I’ve included older SDCC videos of mine in the list too)
San Diego Comic-con 2013 random panel clips
24 JulWe sat in Ballroom 20 all day on Friday in order to catch a few panels that we wanted to see. Yes, this means we got up ridiculously early and got in line well before the con opened. However, what I mean by that may not be what you think- we got to SDCC at 6:40am and joined the Ballroom 20 line at 7:15am, got let into the room at 9ish, with the con beginning at 9:30. Not that bad, actually. We know that there were some people in our line the day before. So we felt pretty good about being in the first half of the group that filled the room that morning. San Diego Comic-con 2013- Joss Whedon
23 JulOne of my favorite panels is the Joss Q&A. If my brother and I make it to the con, this panel is high up on our list. It’s not the best video as my camera died right before and I had to switch and we sat in the back of ballroom 20, but… it is complete (minus 1 question in the middle) and is a lot of fun. If you’ve never had the opportunity to listen to Joss… enjoy! Continue reading
