San Diego COMIC-CON 2012 News Round-Up Day -1 (Warm-Up)

The San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) isn’t starting until Thursday (unless you count the preview night of some of the upcoming series coming up this fall later today), but that doesn’t mean early news is starting to leak in regarding some of the big announcements and events coming up.  Keep checking in over the weekend for some on the ground photos and commentary complied from from NerdLush hostess Elizabeth Ann, plus yours truly bringing you a round-up of the news (and my snarky responses) coming out of Comic-Con.

On The Road Again… SDCC 2012 Here We Come!

This time tomorrow I will be on the freeway heading from LA to San Diego in the annual Nerd Pilgrimage. I missed San Diego Comic-Con last year so I am super excited to be attending this year. I usually attend, with my brother (see here and here for explanations as to why), on behalf of Evil Squirrel Comics in Chicago. I love ESC- it’s my home away from home. This year, however, James and I have a new boss and shall be working for my other home away from home- Action Flick Chick. In the last few weeks, it’s been fun getting an idea of who we may end up talking to for AFC. Certainly made our usual moseying around a little more difficult, but goodness knows- we are up to the challenge! Continue reading →

My Inner Nerd is a Theatre Nerd. But Not a Snobby One.

It’s not really a secret that I am a theatre nerd. I was pretty much raised to be one. My mother made sure we had season tickets to the local amateur theatre company by the time I was five. I even ended up working for the company throughout my teenage years (I was a backstage tech, but the experience taught me a lot about life). I even went to a performing arts high school where I focused on theatre. Sadly, as I went out into the world as an adult, attending theatrical productions has been one of the things that has suffered- it’s generally too expensive. I made it to maybe 3 things while I lived in Chicago- a fact that deeply saddened me (though the things I made it to were well worth the effort). I vowed to make it a possibility to see theatre productions when I moved to L.A. So far, I’ve managed to quick that vow.  Continue reading →
