Welcome back from summer break, Arrowheads! When we last left Team Arrow, it wasn’t really Team Arrow anymore. With Laurel dead and Damien Darhk killed, Diggle rejoined the military, Thea went off for some downtime, and Ollie…became mayor of Star City? Well considering the last mayor was a villainess who almost caused global Armageddon, the Star City council didn’t have many options. But what does this mean for the Green Arrow? What about the rest of the Team? Are we still going to have more flashbacks? How about we get this started by answering that last question first… Continue reading
Ghost In The Machine — a PERSON OF INTEREST primer
15 JunStewart here…
CAUTION: mild SPOILERS ahead…
A bit of setup: just on a brief splurge a few years back, I picked up the the first season of Person of Interest on DVD. I had heard about it, but being on CBS, a network I rarely if at all watched (and being one of the only shows without a NCIS, CSI, or Criminal Minds in the title), I had serious reservations. What surprised me was the rather high concept procedural-esque setup was one that evolved over that first season and the seasons afterwards. It reminded me of what happened to another TV show that was produced by J.J. Abrams, Fringe, in that its concept evolved into a more complex, subversive, and morally gray story. Some of that comes from the show’s creator, Jonathan Nolan (brother of big time director Christopher Nolan), who is bringing some big ideas about current and future technology into play in an network action drama. Deadpool is everything it should be and so much more
21 FebWhat else needs to be said past- Deadpool was awesome and you should go see it? Well, obviously, the fact it is a HARD R needs to be mentioned- but honestly, if you don’t know that by now, you must be living under a rock.
This is NOT your typical comic book movie.
~~~ To be clear… SPOILERS AHEAD~~~ Continue reading
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is exactly what it should be
14 FebTo begin, Jane Austen’s literary classic, “Pride & Prejudice”, is one of my favorite books and stories. And honestly, the 90’s BBC/A&E production with Colin Firth is the film adaptation. (Do not try and convince me that the 2005 with Kiera Knightly is better- you are plain wrong, get over it) So of course I was cautious when a few years ago a book came out rehashing the story, but with zombies.
Here’s the rub though- it was brilliant. Continue reading
A SPOILER-filled review of THE MARTIAN
18 Oct
WARNING: If you haven’t read or seen The Martian, seriously, stop reading until you do because there are SPOILERS. You were warned.
Stewart here…
As I assume most of you readers have gotten around to seeing The Martian and/or read the book, this will be a fairly point-by-point review of my thoughts on the movie. So fair warning.
My Latest Obsession… Henry Cavill, chapter 1
10 SepEvery so often I decide to get obsessed over some actor and watch everything they have made. Sometimes this is a good thing, other times not so much. You might recall the posts on Karl Urban and Scott Bakula… those were good (for the most part). Today, I am beginning to share my latest obsession- Henry Cavill. But I want to subtitle this particular post with I Watched This So You Don’t Have To.
I am going to skip over the obvious- Henry Cavill is pretty. That’s a given. And it is certainly something that would entice the review of projects. So let me just jump to the first title I’ll be discussing in regards to Mr. Cavill… Red Riding Hood.
Fantastic Four… why it failed to impress
19 Aug
Authors Note: I’ve not yet read the comics but I do have the Ultimate run to read as I travel the US in a couple weeks. I do have some knowledge of the FF but not much when it comes to the villains and supporting characters. Editors Note: Woohoo! Here’s an actual review of the recent Fantastic Four film. Poor Lee was so traumatized by it… I had to coerce him to write this just so we’d all understand why the Roger Corman film is better.
I’ll start off with what I enjoyed because there’s not much. Continue reading
Fantastic Four is a bit less fantastic than promised
11 Aug
This is not a review. It would be a review but the only crew member willing to waste the money to see the new Fantastic Four film was too traumatized to write anything.
Seriously. Continue reading
