There’s that great evil coming, an anti-vigilante bill, dealing with the in-laws, and maybe, just maybe, a marriage proposal? And don’t forget the in hiding Chloe, Tess hiding a going crazy Lex clone, and Tess discovering she’s Lionel’s orphaned daughter! Whew. Welcome back, Arrowheads! Last time we were here, Team Arrow was searching for Sara’s killer, and despite stopping a deadly archer assassin, got no joy and not Sara’s killer. I suppose we’ll get to that eventually, but there’s other things to mention before we get to this episode. For instance, Laurel keeping Sara’s death a secret from dad (he has a heart condition!), Felicity taking Ray Palmer’s new high paying job, and Ollie finding out Thea’s not so much “on extended vacation”, but “just getting away from everyone”, and deciding to bring her home. I’m sure finding out about Thea will be nothing in comparison to when he finds out his baby sister is being taught to fight by Malcolm Merlyn! Yeah, the mass murderer and not dead Malcolm Merlyn! Clark managed to avoid getting beamed up to wherever with Zod and the Kandorians, but still has a lot more problems to deal with on Earth. There’s the warnings of a great evil coming, and Jor-El feels Clark isn’t ready to fight it. Then there’s a shady government guy who’s tagging and monitoring superheroes. Then there’s Chloe faking her death and going into hiding. Then there’s Oliver revealing he’s Green Arrow to the public. Then there’s Lois knowing Clark’s secret unbeknownst to him. Then there’s the anti-vigilante push starting to simmer. And even then, there’s the Lex clone that Tess is secretly raising. Man, here’s hoping this round of minicaps gets him a break. Welcome back, Arrow-heads! How was your summer? Well, good news is if you lamented not being able to catch up on last season, well, Netflix has that up, so go ahead and do that. I’ll wait. Now, if you’re back, there’s not much to say except: Ollie defeated Slade, Thea has run off with Malcolm Merlyn, Quentin had a serious health problem, and Team Arrow is off to fight crime in Starling City while trying to rebuild. Also in the flashbacks, Ollie has finally gotten off the island, only to end up in Hong Kong with Amanda Waller. There’s more I should tell you about, but hey, let’s leap in…

Last season, Clark Kent went through a lot of changes.  He’s embracing his role as a hero in Metropolis, he’s embracing a relationship with Lois, and he’s embracing being a mentor to a bunch of kryptonians like him that have arrived on Earth.  Mucking up things for Mr. Kent was Zod, whose twisted need to dominate humanity was barely stopped as the Kandorians were taken to a new home.  The downside was by season’s end, Tess was left burnt and possibly dead, Oliver swarmed by some unknown force, and Clark was stabbed with a blue kryptonite dagger (which also prevented him from being sent on the Kandorians travel bus like Zod and company).  Well, let’s get into the final season of Smallville, shall we, people? Stand up for your nerd self! Nerd Power!

Had to sit through a training on self care for clinicians today, i.e. how to take care of myself so that I can take care of my clients. Not a bad training, as trainings go, but personally I figured out my own self care approaches while in grad school- the first time. It did strike an idea- what are some self care ideas for my nerd peers? I mean, there are a lot of easy self care and coping skills that healthy adults use all the time, but are there any that strike me as key for ideas for nerds? Or what can be tweaked to be specific?

The much anticipated season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts this fall, and we fans are beyond excited! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is written and produced by Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The show was met initially with criticism, perhaps due to sky-high expectations from Marvel die-hards.

I personally enjoy Whedon’s sort of dorky, campy humor. Whedon was the producer of the cult classic (and one of my favorite shows) “Firefly” which was tragically canceled after only one season. Firefly fans are probably better equipped to enjoy the pace and tone of AoS than strict devotees to The Avengers franchise.

Despite initial criticism, AoS has pushed on, and delivered an excellent end to Season One. They won over many of their prior naysayers, and shocked loyal viewers with new plots of intrigue, danger, mystery and unexpected betrayal. They left fans with a lot of questions. We get opened to a lot of big reveals from last time.  There were other super heroes known as the Justice Society of America, who are now reforming thanks to Clark’s help.  John Jones has managed to get his Martian powers back, Lois is finally clear of those creepy memories of the future, and Tess is revealed to be an agent of the shadowy government group Checkmate, who wants to do more than just keep tabs on our heroes.  And also, Clark tries to prevent the dark future Lois saw by making nice with Zod and the Kandorians.  Let’s see how badly this goes…  Continue reading →
