Edge of Tomorrow is a science fiction film directed by Doug Liman who is most known for his work on The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The movie stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson.
Catherine Ross is a full-time stay-at-home-mum who believes learning should be enjoyable for young minds. An erstwhile elementary school teacher, Catherine loves coming up with creative ways through which kids can grasp the seemingly difficult concepts of learning easily. A very popular panel at WonderCon 2014 centered on the subject of Psychology of Cult TV shows. A full room including a standing back row watched as a panel of psychology experts discussed the rich subject matter that made up this topic in both its fictional context and its potential real-world impact. The panel included Dr. Janina Scarlet (The Superhero Manual), Josué Cardona (Geek Therapy), Dr. Travis Langley (Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight), and NerdLush Diva herself Elizabeth Ann.

Marvel Studios continues the expansion of its super hero universe with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, an espionage thriller that is set up to change everything we know about the inner workings of the government agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Chris Evans returns in the title role and we also see newcomers Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford in addition to familiar faces like Samuel L. In 2006, Zack Snyder’s 300 debuted with a brutally brilliant visual style that captured the attention of audiences around the world and now, 300: Rise of an Empire is here to fill in even more of the hyper stylized story surrounding the infamous 300 Spartan soldiers who defied an army and gave their lives for a nation. Noam Murro takes over directing duties while Lena Heady, Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, and Callan Mulvey round out the extremely athletic cast.

As a geek mom raising a geek baby can be both exciting and frustrating. My daughter just turned 1 and I love introducing her to new things and experiences. I can’t wait as she grows to read some of my favorite books, share my favorite movies, and watch her develop her inner geek. It will be fascinating to watch. Will she like comic books? Superheroes? DC or Marvel? What will her favorite show be? Book? Movie? Which Doctor will she like the most? Will she love going to comic cons and immersing herself in the geek atmosphere? Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow Pictures have joined forces with the Lego Company to produce a movie featuring their iconic products. This animated 3D movie features the voice talents of Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Charlie Day, Will Forte, Jonah Hill, Cobie Smulders, Channing Tatum, and Morgan Freeman and was directed by Phile Lord and Christopher Miller.

MGM and Columbia Pictures have decided to resurrect a cult classic science fiction character in hopes of creating a new blockbuster franchise and, thanks to director José Padilha, Robocop looks primed and ready to blow through the competition. The movie stars Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jay Baruchel while Joel Kinnaman takes on the title role.

This week I entered the world of the voice actor at the Con Artists premiere at the Downtown Independent, LA. The film is a mockumentary about “the madness of the convention circuit as seen through the eyes of two voice actors, who live in a sort of bubble of fame.” (Yuri Lowenthal) You might know Yuri – one of the writers and stars of Con Artists – by his face (Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Shelf Life), but you would most certainly know him by his voice (Ben 10, Naruto, Afro Samurai). He is not the only recognizable creator/writer behind Con Artists; but also his lovely wife, Tara Platt (Naruto, Shelf Life, Ben 10). Right now, the current trend is that Geek is Chic. My daughter is only 7 months old, and I kind of hope that this trend has died down before she’s too grown up. It’s not that I don’t want my daughter to embrace geekdom, but I want her to embrace it because she truly is a geek and enjoys something so much that it overwhelms and inspires her. I don’t want her to be a geek because it’s the “in” thing to do. I’ve decided that in order for my daughter to truly embrace being a geek she needs to be exposed to everything so she can decide what it is that she truly loves as she grows up. I don’t think it’s too early to start exposing her to things. I actually now is the perfect time to start. She’s a blank slate, adventurous and open to anything and everything that comes her way. It might be a strange way to describe a 7 month old, but if you could meet her, you would understand. My daughter is very alert, she watches everything and everyone. I’m pretty sure she’s just filing all the information she’s gathering away in her mind for future use, probably against me somehow. Continue reading
