ZappCon Year 2

24 Oct

This past weekend we had the opportunity to attend a local conventions second year event. We were able to attend last year and so were able to see how the event had grown. ZappCon, year 2, took a solid step into growing as an event we plan to attend for the foreseeable future.

It’s not a perfect event, but it did a good job of not trying to be too big too soon, and thus it can easily grow into an event to hold its own. Continue reading

No ConCrud for me! #SDCC happened without me!

12 Jul

While I absolutely love attending San Diego Comic Con, this year real life has kept me at home and watching the news online for all the latest nerd tidbits.

Wizard World Sacramento

24 Jun

The downside of hitting a convention for only one day is that the day is spent rushing around trying to see as much as possible while still enjoying it. The upside? You went to a convention- any time spent at one is a good time.

I got a last minute-ish invite to join a panel at Wizard World Sacramento and as it is only a hop and three skips north of the NerdLush HQ, I accepted. But as it is so close, it made as much sense to opt for a day trip as it did to go for the whole weekend (especially with several other things coming up quick). So Saturday morning, I hopped in Tardis Jr and ventured to nerd fun. Continue reading

Joined a panel of mental health professionals, along with a novelist and journalist, to discuss the “struggle to survive and hang onto their humanity in the worst situations”, through the lens of The Walking Dead.

WonderCon 2015 was a celebration of popular culture and nerdery. It offered fans a chance to meet creators and artists, to see props and replicas, to meet some treasured celebrities, and even to attend panels for creators, mental health considerations, and favorite TV shows or upcoming films. (Also- lots of cosplay fun)

Essentially- any bit of nerdy fun was available. Continue reading

WonderCon 2015: the continuing adventures of this nerdy bunny

Trekked south this past weekend for the annual WonderCon event in Anaheim. The con continues to be a wonderful midsize event that draws a great crowd of awesome nerds. It’s certainly a smaller event than the summer shindig that is SDCC but that works in several ways- easier to breath without quite so many people, it’s easier to get in to events and panels, and without the major studios cramming the exhibit hall it gives fans a chance to actually chat with creators.  Continue reading

A little diamond in the rough- Tulare SciFi Con

22 Mar

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a new regional convention- the Tulare SciFi Con, in Tulare, California. The convention is new in the way that this was its second year- and we were informed by several vendors and attendees that it had grown immensely since last year.

Guest Post!!~ Geek Mom Raising a Geek Baby

16 Feb

NerdLush friend, Jackie, is back with another guest post– this time she returns to the topic of raising a baby in a world of geek.

********************************************************************

I’ve attempted to write this piece for several months now. It first started out as a piece on my experience taking a toddler to the Chicago Comic Con back in August. Then it evolved into a piece about finding “geek” and “super hero” clothing that’s for girls and doesn’t include a tutu. Then I sat back and realized I’ve written on both of these topics before. Welcome to the future! 2015 is here to stay!

1 Jan

Today, as we begin another shiny new year, we say goodbye to 2014. 2014 was a good year for NerdLush- we (I) had the opportunity to speak on panels at a few conventions; NerdLush grew with great guest posters (two of which are now official crew members!- Char and Marc); and a headquarters move. Here is the flipagram video I made on NYE that shows many of the adventures I had with various crew…  Continue reading
