Free Time! How should I fill it?

28 Jul

Real life is about to get a lot more boring for a little while- i.e. as I wait for my new RL job to start, I don’t have anything to do.

So I’m putting it out there to all of you… What should I do to fill up my days?

Are there shows I need to watch? Webseries?

What about books- any that you’d recommend?

Are there adventures I should look into having?

It’s been a while since I’ve had this kind of freedom and while I look forward to a few days of nothing but sleep, I’d like to keep busy.

Let’s take a moment to think about our sanity!

Did you know they play Dungeons & Dragons in prison?

Me either.

Also, MAGIC The Gathering.

Who knew, right? Continue reading

Today… stop and remember…

Memorial Day doesn’t mean a lot to most people- it’s a day off from work punctuated by BBQs and maybe some fireworks. And that’s OK. Continue reading

WonderCon 2015: the continuing adventures of this nerdy bunny

7 Apr

Trekked south this past weekend for the annual WonderCon event in Anaheim. The con continues to be a wonderful midsize event that draws a great crowd of awesome nerds. It’s certainly a smaller event than the summer shindig that is SDCC but that works in several ways- easier to breath without quite so many people, it’s easier to get in to events and panels, and without the major studios cramming the exhibit hall it gives fans a chance to actually chat with creators.  Continue reading

How do we survive the loss of a character? It hurts so bad!

30 Mar

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Tyler Hoechlin- “Derek” on MTV’s Teen Wolf– would be leaving the show. Now, it makes sense as his character was pushed out of a central role in the last season and half because there are a ton of teens on the show (and the actor reportedly wants freedom to do more movies) but… Derek is one of the reasons I watch the show.

Without him, will I continue to watch? Continue reading

A little diamond in the rough- Tulare SciFi Con

22 Mar

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a new regional convention- the Tulare SciFi Con, in Tulare, California. The convention is new in the way that this was its second year- and we were informed by several vendors and attendees that it had grown immensely since last year.

A Brief Appreciation of Leonard Nimoy

28 Feb

image

Like many of you in geekdom, I felt a slight bit of sadness upon hearing the recent news of Leonard Nimoy’s passing. While a lot of his friends, peers, and fans who have met him over the years have laid their own tributes as of this writing, I thought I should talk about how he influenced me. Or in this case, how his iconic performance as Spock influenced me.

Take a trip with This American Journey

24 Feb

The first thing you need to know when planning a trip? Where the best diners are. And that is exactly how the route for the cross country trek at the center of Paul Blackthorne’s This American Journey begins. Which tells me that I picked the right film to watch.

But that is the last simple moment of the film- everything after… digs deeper. Continue reading

Guest Post!!~ Geek Mom Raising a Geek Baby

16 Feb

NerdLush friend, Jackie, is back with another guest post– this time she returns to the topic of raising a baby in a world of geek.

********************************************************************

I’ve attempted to write this piece for several months now. It first started out as a piece on my experience taking a toddler to the Chicago Comic Con back in August. Then it evolved into a piece about finding “geek” and “super hero” clothing that’s for girls and doesn’t include a tutu. Then I sat back and realized I’ve written on both of these topics before. An Open Letter to TNT. (or why I had to switch channels)

15 Jan

Dear TNT,

Hey- how are you? I like what you’ve been doing lately. For the most part. I mean- the original programming? Fantastic! You’ve got a really good thing going on!

Keep up the great work. Continue reading
