Is there a point to getting up on Saturday mornings?
6 DecWhen I was a kid, we’d get up early(ish) on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons. Everything from Looney Toons to Spiderman to X-Men to Gummi Bears. They ran from dawn all the way to noon. Sometimes, a network would slip in something that wasn’t a cartoon, like Power Rangers or Superboy, but it was still a silly bit of family fun. Then FOX would run a couple of movies in the afternoon- usually things that today we’d classify as Syfy channel original films; things like Night of the Lepus. Continue reading

The much anticipated season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts this fall, and we fans are beyond excited! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is written and produced by Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The show was met initially with criticism, perhaps due to sky-high expectations from Marvel die-hards.
I personally enjoy Whedon’s sort of dorky, campy humor. Whedon was the producer of the cult classic (and one of my favorite shows) “Firefly” which was tragically canceled after only one season. Firefly fans are probably better equipped to enjoy the pace and tone of AoS than strict devotees to The Avengers franchise.
Despite initial criticism, AoS has pushed on, and delivered an excellent end to Season One. They won over many of their prior naysayers, and shocked loyal viewers with new plots of intrigue, danger, mystery and unexpected betrayal. They left fans with a lot of questions. 23 AugI was stressing about coming up for a post for today and thus asked my brother for a topic idea. He reminded me that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has made a big philosophical change from season 1 to 2 as they had originally talked about distancing the show from known Marvel characters. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ward… do we love him? Yes, we do.
26 JulAt the end of season 1 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Char and I were working on a post about why we loved Agent Ward. Even though he was with Hydra and evil. Life happened, the finale aired, and we never finished it.
