SPOILERS ahead for the first two episodes of the new season…

After all that happened last season, like HYDRA getting wiped out and everyone’s favorite likable psychopath Grant Ward finally meeting his end, it was hard to see where the next season would go. We knew from that brief time jump glimpse in the season 3 finale, Daisy was a fugitive and Coulson was no longer SHIELD’s head honcho. But what did that really mean for the rest of our team? That part was left vague, but with this week’s season premiere, we finally get a clue to what’s going on with SHIELD now, if at best, its a bit clearer. But let’s run through the bullet points of the season premiere: Continue reading

ARROW Season 5×01, “Legacy” recap

Welcome back from summer break, Arrowheads! When we last left Team Arrow, it wasn’t really Team Arrow anymore. With Laurel dead and Damien Darhk killed, Diggle rejoined the military, Thea went off for some downtime, and Ollie…became mayor of Star City? Well considering the last mayor was a villainess who almost caused global Armageddon, the Star City council didn’t have many options. But what does this mean for the Green Arrow? What about the rest of the Team? Are we still going to have more flashbacks? How about we get this started by answering that last question first… Continue reading

Why After 50 Years, STAR TREK Is Still Important

8 Sep

Stewart here…

For many nerds like me, and I assume you for reading this, this week is a particularly important one for us. This week (or specifically September 8th) marks the first airing of the original Star Trek TV series, all the way back in September 8th, 1966. That episode, “The Man Trap”, wasn’t even the first produced episode for the show, but the network scheduled it as the series premiere. Watching it even now as I assumed back then for many viewers at the time, you would find it hard to believe this would create a multitude of series, movies, novels, and comic books that would last through half a century. Yet it has, and through all of the high and lows, somehow persevered through now generations of fans. Continue reading

How 30 Years Ago, TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE Destroyed My Childhood

4 Sep

Stewart here…

As much as I have heard the phrase “this _______ remake destroyed my childhood” over the years, I never really subscribed to it. It always seemed like the fall back thing to say for nerds and pop culture obsessives to say when something was brought back with a different slant (and if you don’t believe me, read the bro centric and lady phobic comments over the last year to the recent Ghostbusters movie). Oh there are some remakes that warrant such disdain, either because they are too bland or they don’t push far enough to be something different, but destroying your childhood? Childhood is nothing but trauma, so I never understood it. Which is why when discussing the destruction of my childhood, I point out the movie that destroyed my childhood, that unlike most grown nerds, destroyed it during my childhood: 1986’s TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE. Gather forth your Heroes, your villains, and all the wine!

2 Sep

Ventured towards California’s coast over the weekend to attend the 2nd Heroes and Villains Fan Fest (HVFF) in San Jose. This is a convention that has been growing steadily since its first event a year and a half/two years ago. It was a good weekend- not perfect- and something we’d love to check out again.

Supergirl season 1… I believe a girl can fly!

27 Aug

Not gonna lie- I started watching Supergirl when it premiered and after a few weeks it went to the DVR back burner… not because it wasn’t fun but it conflicted with another show and I’m lazy. But with the recent release of season 1 on DVD I’ve been binging.

And it has been a most pleasant binge. Continue reading

Gotham season 2 review… the good, the bad, and the OMG they didn’t do that, did they?

24 Aug

Second season of FOX’s Gotham continued as my guilty pleasure program. There’s something about it that’s really good… but also something sort of awful.

And I’m not just referring to Fish Mooney.

Safe to say SPOILERS herein…

I watched BATMAN V SUPERMAN: THE ULTIMATE EDITION!

Unlike our beloved NerdLush head honcho, I have not really discussed with you all my thoughts on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. So let me start off my saying that BvS is not the worst movie ever made (maybe the worst comic book movie of 2016, but that’s only SO FAR…), BUT there’s way too many pacing and story issues that don’t make it good. It’s like shoving 15 pounds of stuff into a 5 pound bag and realizing some important material fell out during the bag filling. So when I heard of a longer version coming to Blu-ray, I was guardedly excited. Continue reading

Out and About in the Central Valley- Modesto Con

19 Jul

Since moving HQ from LA to the Central Valley in 2014, we’ve tried to ensure that we take in the local nerdy scene. Growing up in the area, I remember having a few decent events when I was a kid and then nothing for a solid 10 years. Thus… it’s been a lot of fun checking out some of the local conventions and seeing the community grow.

We recently had the opportunity to hop in the car for an hour plus drive to head to Modesto for a convention. Now… I cannot remember the last time I actually stopped the car in Modesto… but it’s one of the little towns in the Valley with a lot of fun history. You might remember it as the town from American GraffitiContinue reading

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 3 recap!

Thanks to Netflix posting this early, I was able to rewatch the most recent season of Agents of SHIELD. On the whole, this show has been gradually improving from season to season, and season three was no exception. But I thought I’d just bring up some big points that stuck with me in my rewatch. Expect snarkiness and lots of SPOILERS to follow: Continue reading
