As I assume most of you readers have gotten around to seeing The Martian and/or read the book, this will be a fairly point-by-point review of my thoughts on the movie. So fair warning.
Welcome back, Arrowheads! Ollie and Felicity head back to Star City after playing happy suburban couple for a while. What they’ve come back to is a reticent Diggle, a slightly vicious Thea, and a new threat in HIVE, led by the not quite human Damien Darhk. Darhk wants to lay waste to the city, and has help…in a maybe reluctant Quentin! Also in the flashback portion of our tour, Ollie gets picked up by Amanda Waller and sent on a secret mission to a familiar haunt…Lian Yu! Also, someone will be in a grave six months down the road. Last time, we got teased with the possibility of longtime SG-1 nemesis Senator Kinsey getting assassinated, although that turned out to be a ruse to weed out a way more corrupt end of the way corrupt NID. Way to let us down, show. Well Kinsey reappears in this round of Minicaps, so maybe there’s some hope from this creep’s demise, huh? Read on to see if I’m proven right…

Continuing with my obsession with all things Henry Cavill, I’ve taken to watching some of the bigger budget, wider release films.
Of course, we all know of Man of Steel. In fact, we’ve written several posts here about it. It’s still not a good Superman movie- but I will accept it as a summer blockbuster. In some ways I am looking forward to next summers Batman vs Superman film, but in other ways… I’m terrified. But that is neither here nor there. MoS was the film that truly brought Henry Cavill to the international view. Even though Henry had been in multiple pieces at that point that put him in the public eye- I’m looking at you, The Tudors– it was MoS that made people look at him and go “whoa”. Continue reading

Last time: the SGC had an impromptu test run of their new hybrid spaceship, the Prometheus, and by “impromptu”, I mean it was hijacked. Before SG-1 could rest from recovering the ship, the Asgard popped by, needing their help to stop the Replicators on the Asgard homeworld. After setting off a time dilation device that stuck the Replicators seemingly for good, I guess it’s time for some rest and relaxation. Well, how does that go in this round of Minicaps? We’ve talked a few times about friendships and community that come along with fandom and connecting with others. Personally, I think it’s a very important thing- being able to connect with others who enjoy the same things. The second season of FOX’s Gotham premiered this week. The series presents a path towards the creation of DC’s “Batman” by introducing the characters of Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock, Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, and Dr. Leslie Tompkins; and the future Batman villains Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, and others. The first season proved to be worthy of the fanbase- to some. Personally, I told myself I’d give it to the winter hiatus to catch me and then move on. I mean, I like Batman and Gordon has always been an intriguing character. So… yeah.
The thing is, the episode right before hiatus… it was really good. So I came back after the holidays hoping for more. But it took 10 episodes to get there! Why is that? Continue reading
