Welcome back from the holidays, Arrowheads! How has your break been? Well, it started out great for Ollie, now cementing his bid for mayor and proposing to Felicity. But leave it to Damien Darhk to leave a giant lump of coal in the Queen Christmas stocking by having the happy engaged duo ambushed, and Felicity being shot! Welcome to 2016, Oliver Queen and gang. My Review of Season One of ASH VS. EVIL DEAD!

9 Jan

Stewart here…

And mild spoilers here, but bigger ones further in…

20160106-235302.jpg

So, as I wrote in my glowing review of the first episode, I was enthusiastic about Ash vs. Evil Dead, but unsure how it would go being a ten episode season of half hour long episodes. Heck, that’s longer than the whole Evil Dead trilogy put together! So now that I have seen the whole first season, where do I stand? Generally positive, with a few concerns. But we’ll get there… Continue reading

Stewart here…

Okay, I plan to keep the first half of this post relatively spoiler-free, but will discuss more specific points in the latter half, so don’t worry, YOU’LL BE WARNED.

So, let’s start off with some broad things about Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Continue reading

ARROW Season 4×09, “Dark Waters” recap

10 Dec

20151005-020437.jpg

Welcome back, Arrowheads! Damien Darhk and HIVE have been trying to lay waste to Star City this season, and have been running into delays as Team Arrow have been getting close to taking out these baddies. But with Ollie refusing to side himself or his mayoral campaign with Darhk, it looks like things are going to get harder for Ollie in and out of the mask. Continue reading

ARROW Season 4×08 recap, “Legends of Yesterday”

3 Dec

20151202-201329.jpg

Welcome back, Arrowheads! If you haven’t figured it out, this is the second half of a big Arrow/Flash crossover (which you can read the first half recap on A&V Stimuli), so let’s stick to what we learned on the Flash end: Vandal Savage, an immortal hunter who has been part of the big events of human history, visited Central City to kill Cisco’s new girlfriend, Kendra. Why? As we learn from a winged man (as in a man with hawk wings) called Carter Hall, she and him are lovers who have spent thousands of years being reincarnated and killed by Savage. When Barry Allen feels the Flash isn’t enough to stop him, he seeks Team Arrow’s help. Bad news, they can’t stop Savage, and with Savage recovering a superpowered staff, it looks like things are gonna get worse.

Taking A Leap Into (an advance first episode review of) Syfy’s THE EXPANSE!

27 Nov

20151126-000525.jpg

Stewart here…

It seems like Syfy is going all in with spaceship based drama this year, with Dark Matter and Killjoys earlier this year, but those were appetizers for December’s The Expanse. Based on the book series by James S.A. Corey (a pseudonym for the two writers of the books, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), this show was one I was really looking for to, as I recently started reading the books for myself. But considering Syfy has been keeping its stable of shows relatively Earthbound, how would this sparring saga fare when translated to television? If the first episode (now available on cable on demand and YouTube ahead of its mid-December premiere) is any indication, Sci-Fi TV fans are in for a great meal.

Supergirl: do you believe a girl can fly?

This is not a review. There haven’t been enough episodes to truly review this series yet. This is, instead, me working out whether or not Supergirl is worth my time.

ARROW Season 4×07 recap, “Brotherhood”

19 Nov

20151005-020437.jpg

Welcome back, Arrowheads! It’s a big “Everyone’s Coming Back From The Dead Party” this season. Sara came back a while ago, and guess who came back from the dead (well, he was declared legally dead, so that counts)? Ray Palmer, who spent months playing Ant-Man. I suppose at this rate Moira Queen will rise from her grave before Tommy Merlyn does. However, we got some other things to deal with: like fighting HIVE and Diggle finding out the truth that his brother may have had a really shady past before he got killed. If there was only some way to solve Dig’s unresolved issues while tying into the Everyone’s Coming Back From The Dead Party. Hmmm… Continue reading
