Television Graveyard- plot 8, The Gates

19 May

One of the great things about the end of the “normal” TV season is that it gives a chance to sit back and enjoy, via Hulu or Netflix, a show that ended years ago or that you may have missed. In my case, I have been enjoying a short lived supernatural series from 2010- The Gates.

Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  Well, here’s what we need to remember before we get to this last episode of the season: Starling City’s under siege by Slade’s supermen, Sebastian Blood’s dead, Ollie has the Mirakuru cure, and none of this may matter if Amanda Waller’s drone strike on the city happens in a few hours! A PENNY DREADFUL premiere review for your thoughts

Stewart here…

Being so busy watching other quality shows, I rarely have time to indulge in finding new ones.  So, when I was informed that Showtime put up the first episode of Penny Dreadful, their new supernatural series online for nada, I thought it would be worth a look.  Now, I had heard about it over the last year, mostly because of its talent behind it: Sam Mendes and John Logan, director and writer respectively of the recent James Bond movie, Skyfall (and the follow-up due around 2015), with Logan the main writer of the show.  But up until the time of hearing the premiere was available to watch, did not much about it. ARROW Season 2×22, “Streets of Fire” recap

7 May

Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  So the proverbial crap has hit the proverbial fan.  Ollie’s in a bit of a funk after Moira’s death, but gets put right by Team Arrow and…Laurel?  Yeah, she gives him enough motivation to get back to the hood wearing to take down Sebastian Blood and that Mirakuru-army of his.  And then Team Arrow gets sidetracked in a few ways: Ollie and Laurel being trapped in the tunnels below Starling City; Felicity getting a call from STAR Labs about that Mirakuru cure; and Diggle facing off against a really ticked off Isabel.  And things get worse with Blood’s army laying siege to places like Quentin’s precinct house and the train station where Thea is, while the army makes its way into town.  Ruh-Roh! Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  What you need to know so far: Roy’s still kept comatose, Thea’s not handling life very well, Sara’s taken off to see an old friend, and Slade just killed Moira in front of Oliver and Thea!  So by default, Sebastian Blood’s become mayor of Starling City (I guess) and we got an army of Mirakuru-enhanced men waiting to be let out.  So how is Ollie going to handle this one last fatal blow from Slade? Continue reading

arrow-00002

Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  What we need to know so far is Moira’s still running for mayor, Thea’s still angry with Moira and Ollie lying to her about…pretty much everything, and Roy’s still comatose.  On the plus side, Felicity is getting some help from STAR Labs to make a cure and Isabel is dead (at least as far as Team Arrow knows), so things are looking up, right?  Well, this episode reminds us: nope, it’s going to get worse. Continue reading

ARROW Season 2×19, “The Man Under The Hood” recap

17 Apr

arrow-00002

Welcome back, Arrow-heads!  Slade’s been upping his campaign on Ollie big time, by laying some truth bombs on people.  He’s told Thea about her real dad, and Laurel about who the Arrow really is.  Besides that, he’s shanghaied a bus full of prisoners for part of his master plan.  And also, since Ollie was busy trying to recover Thea, he gave over temporary control of the family company to Isabel, who immediately seized control and revealed herself to be one of Slade’s conspirators!  Plus, Quentin’s in prison, Thea wants nothing to do with her family, and Roy has skipped town.  So, now what? Television Graveyard- plot 7, The Dresden Files

11 Apr

Following my recent Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. marathon, I marathoned Arrow– which as you know, is a favorite here at NerdLush. And my adoration for Paul Blackthorne was awakened… additionally, he has been super awesome to NerdLush on twitter, which warms the black pits of my hearts. Of course, this means that I pulled out a favorite single season television series- The Dresden Files.

In 2000, Jim Butcher introduced the character of Harry Dresden in the novel, “Storm Front”. The character, a wizard P.I., is a consultant to the Chicago Police Department- think Sam Spade but add magic. There are now over a dozen novels in print.
