Avengers assembled! And kicked a little a$$!

3 May

The internet is full of reviews of Avengers: Age of Ultron, so this is not going to be another tedious post speaking about the cinematography, direction, production quality, direction, etc… Well, maybe a little on the direction.

Let’s just get to the nitty gritty- loved the film. Can I see it again? Now?

ARROW Season 3×21, “Al Sah-him” recap

29 Apr

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So previously, Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak finally had sex. Yes, I know this is a great thing for shippers, and a questionable plot move (like most of them this season) for many critics. On the other hand, its good to finally get that tension and wishy-washiness both of them have had all season put aside to have that brief break from all this lunacy together. Oh, and in order to save a dying Thea using Ra’s magic health hot tub, Ollie had to finally take that offer to be the next head of the League of Assassins. The main takeaway of this is Ollicity sex, everyone.

ARROW Season 3×20, “The Fallen” recap

23 Apr

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So, Team Arrow is dealing with all the fallout of Ra’s machinations to get Ollie to be the next League of Assassins president. Quentin has cracked down on everyone, Roy had to fake his death and leave town, and just when things couldn’t get more messed up, Ra’s stabbed Thea with a sword! Some companies refuse to take “no” as an answer when it comes to hiring people. I wonder how Ra’s new sales pitch to Ollie works out this episode. Continue reading

Here comes…Daredevil, the season review without fear!

Stewart here…and slight spoilers ahead…

Being a longtime comics reader, I have a certain affinity for Daredevil, the blind hero of Hell’s Kitchen. I would drop in and out of the book in the last twenty plus odd years, but the most consistent I’ve been with Daredevil is during an insanely great run in the 00’s from writer Brian Michael Bendis, and subsequently writer Ed Brubaker. In that run, lawyer Matt Murdock and his crime-fighting alter ego went through an insane ringer of stuff, like his identity being made public, basically taking over Hell’s Kitchen, getting sent to prison, getting married, going crazy, and ending up running the lethal clan of assassins known as The Hand (I could mention what happened after that where he was possessed by a demon and tried to take over New York, but I rather not). In recent years, he’s gotten a better break in things, moving to San Francisco of all places, but clearly that’s not where this Netflix based Marvel TV show is placing itself. Like the eponymous movie of the same name (and for a better word on that than mine, check out the How Did This Get Made podcast episode on that), we’re staying in New York for this new take on Ol’ Hornhead. ARROW Season 3×19, “Broken Arrow” recap

15 Apr

arrow302 Welcome back, Arrowheads! Previously: things went galactically bad for Team Arrow as Quentin decided to hammer out his betrayal issues by hunting them down. Then he found out from Ra’s (a reliable source, I guess) that Ollie’s the Arrow, and things got not remotely better. To save everyone else, he turns himself in in a plea deal. But the rest of the Team didn’t like that, and so, Roy appears in front of the convoy transporting Ollie…as the Arrow! Way to go, Roy, with lifetime imprisonment?

WonderCon 2015: the continuing adventures of this nerdy bunny

7 Apr

banner_wondercon-anaheim

Trekked south this past weekend for the annual WonderCon event in Anaheim. The con continues to be a wonderful midsize event that draws a great crowd of awesome nerds. It’s certainly a smaller event than the summer shindig that is SDCC but that works in several ways- easier to breath without quite so many people, it’s easier to get in to events and panels, and without the major studios cramming the exhibit hall it gives fans a chance to actually chat with creators.  Continue reading

ARROW Season 3×18, “Public Enemy” recap

1 Apr

arrow302Welcome back, Arrowheads! Ollie is learning that turning down Ra’s offer of becoming the next Demon’s Head is harder than he thought. Ra’s is a persistent headhunter for good employees, because he has pretend Arrows murdering criminals, but now its escalated to murdering the mayor and threatening several people in the room where said mayor gets shafted, like Felicity, Ray, and daddy and Laurel Lance. I’m sure Quentin will take this well and behave in a sane and logical manner… Continue reading

ARROW Season 3×17, “Suicidal Tendencies” recap

26 Mar

arrow302Welcome back, Arrowheads! Last we left Team Arrow, Ollie got offered the President of the League of Assassins job by Ra’s al Ghul. He turned it down, but Ra’s is making certain Ollie’s going to take the job, staging fake Arrow-centric killings or not. Ra’s daughter Nyssa is also taking care of business, by training Laurel to be less of a sloppy fighter. But hey, right now Ollie has to get his tux cleaned off, because he has to be the best man at Diggle’s (second) wedding to Lyla! Continue reading

A little diamond in the rough- Tulare SciFi Con

22 Mar

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a new regional convention- the Tulare SciFi Con, in Tulare, California. The convention is new in the way that this was its second year- and we were informed by several vendors and attendees that it had grown immensely since last year.

ARROW Season 3×16, “The Offer” recap

19 Mar

arrow302

Welcome back from that brief break, Arrowheads! A lot of things went down last episode, so let’s just hit the big bullet points. Ray Palmer got his ATOM suit working along with his mojo by sleeping with Felicity. Thea gave up dear ol’ dad to the League of Assassins, and when that wasn’t enough to cure her of that whole “murdering a friend’s sister under the influence of mind-altering drugs” guilt, she offered herself up to Nyssa. Ollie and Diggle went to retrieve Malcolm from Nanda Parbat, but got captured. And then, we discover Ollie’s last experience with Ra’s was the world’s deadliest job interview, because Oliver Queen was offered the job of being the head of the League. Hopefully the League has a good dental plan.
