ARROW Season 5×06, “So It Begins” recap

Welcome back, Arrowheads! Ollie’s been having a tough time with both his day job and night job as of late. But with some big moves as mayor and capturing crime boss Tobias Church as the Green Arrow, it looks all gravy. But there are some problems brewing, like reporter Susan Williams finding out Ollie was not stranded on an island for five years. Notorious is guilty of being fun!

Much earlier than usual, I am able to declare my guilty pleasure show for the fall 2016 season- Notorious. I’ll be honest, I basically only watch my genre (superheroes/supernatural/fantasy) shows these days. I’ve stopped watching all my dramas or cop shows in the last few years since working at the prison- I’m tired when I get home and the comic book heroes don’t require a ton of thinking on my part. Bonus- they are better popcorn for the mind! So it’s weird to say that a show about a news program and a couple of lawyers is now something I look forward to.

Welcome back, Arrowheads! Last we left John Diggle, his return to the military hit a sizable end when he was framed for a crime he did not commit. And add to that, he’s still feeling guilt over killing his corrupt baby brother, so he’s not gonna really put up much of a fight to prove his innocence. The early 90s attempted to reignite the love for genre TV. Two shows were already presented in this column- SeaQuest DSV & The Flash– but the primary networks had several other shows on air that they used to try to bring in the genre crowd. NBC ran a pair of dramas on Saturday night- The Pretender and Profiler– that they used to dominate the thrill/suspense group. CBS was king of the mysteries. And ABC had a tight grip on the “family” audience with their Friday night line-up of sitcoms. So they tried their darnedest to transfer that audience to a genre with the family friendly Superman series, Lois & Clark.

ARROW Season 5×02, “The Recruits” recap

Welcome back, Arrowheads! Now that Ollie is busy being the Mayor of Star City, he kind of needs a new Team to help take the load of fighting crime. And that’s good, because crime boss Tobias Church and some mystery bad guy are looking to cause serious trouble. With Thea happy to remain sans costume and Diggle serving overseas, Ollie doesn’t have many options. Also, we all remember that city that was accidentally nuked last season? Just keep that in mind.

After all that happened last season, like HYDRA getting wiped out and everyone’s favorite likable psychopath Grant Ward finally meeting his end, it was hard to see where the next season would go. We knew from that brief time jump glimpse in the season 3 finale, Daisy was a fugitive and Coulson was no longer SHIELD’s head honcho. But what did that really mean for the rest of our team?
