Annabelle is a prequel to The Conjuring which was a surprise horror hit from last year directed by James Wan. This time around, John R. Leonetti, whose previous directing efforts include Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and The Butterfly Effect 2, takes the reins of what could turn into the latest genre franchise. The movie stars Annabelle Wallis (Yes, her name is Annabelle), Ward Horton, Tony Amendola, and Alfre Woodard. Continue reading

Guest Post!!~ 5 Questions We Want Answered In Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The much anticipated season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts this fall, and we fans are beyond excited! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is written and produced by Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The show was met initially with criticism, perhaps due to sky-high expectations from Marvel die-hards.

I personally enjoy Whedon’s sort of dorky, campy humor. Whedon was the producer of the cult classic (and one of my favorite shows) “Firefly” which was tragically canceled after only one season. Firefly fans are probably better equipped to enjoy the pace and tone of AoS than strict devotees to The Avengers franchise.

Despite initial criticism, AoS has pushed on, and delivered an excellent end to Season One. They won over many of their prior naysayers, and shocked loyal viewers with new plots of intrigue, danger, mystery and unexpected betrayal. They left fans with a lot of questions. Here are my top 5: Continue reading

Guest Post!!!~ Oreo.. Oreo.. How tasty art though, Oreo?

2 Sep

Today a new guest poster joins NerdLush, Madame Laura! In her own words- “I worked for several years at an environmental laboratory but am currently a stay-at-home mom of 2. My all-time favorite geeky TV series are the X-Files and anything Star Trek from TNG onward. I am a long-time World of Warcraft player and have made many awesome friends through the game, and enjoy other Blizzard games as well. And my very favorite Nintendo character is Yoshi.” Welcome, Laura!

So, a confession..  I’ve developed a weird thing.  A thing about OREOS.  Oreo has come up with tons of limited-edition flavors over time, and I am apparently their target audience.. I see a new package, and I have to buy it.  Those marketing people know how to get me, and these special flavors seem to be popping onto store shelves more and more frequently in recent months.  My friends have noticed this phenomenon through my numerous Facebook pictures and posts, and I have been requested to share my opinions of these oddities.  I am going to go one geeky step further for NerdLush, and make recommendations on which of my favorite tabletop games would be the best side dish to accompany each unique flavor.

Guest Post!~ A Sampling of Select SDCC Panels!

1 Aug

This year, NerdLush had no staff on the ground at SDCC so we adopted one, in his own words-

My name is Asher Johnson. I am currently a graduate student in Clinical Psychology mentored by Dr. Janina Scarlet. My interests include Forensics, Personality Assessment, and Superheroes. Currently, I am working on a project in which I will be combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Superheroes to reach the inmate population in order to cultivate empathy and compassion. I grew up with a love for Superman, Hulk, Rocky Balboa, and Star Wars episodes IV, V, and VI (specifically Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader)… recently I’ve developed an equally special appreciation for Dr. Who. I’ve learned several values from these characters, with the initial lesson being that strength is found within the depth of pain—no matter what that source of pain is. Pain is a necessary force in life. It keeps us alive. It reminds us that we aren’t dead, which gives us the hope of a better tomorrow. The second lesson is the value of humility. Humility is the greatest force of life. Many might argue that love is the greatest force, but perhaps love and humility are one in the same. It takes humility/ to do all the things that superheroes do, such as sacrifice, persevere, see others through the lens of compassion and love, and hope. Third, I have learned the value of wisdom and humor. The two really do go hand in hand. Teachable moments are so much more impacting and longstanding with the patience and kindness of humorous, but wise advice. The fourth and final lesson I’ve learned is the greatness of resilience. We don’t have to be strong all the time to survive, but we do need to know how to cope, stay centered, and be accountable. If we do this, we won’t forget who we are and then we are easier able to find purpose.

So… you want to write a guest post?

14 Jul

Something strange has happened the last few months- we’ve gotten a large number of requests to guest post on NerdLush. Now, I think it’s really cool that people want to join us, but a lot of the requests scream SCAM/SPAM… like… they aren’t written by people that actually read our site. So I’ve decided that there should be a form to fill out if you want to guest post with us- Continue reading

San Diego Comic-con 2014

26 Jun

The annual event in San Diego is rapidly approaching. Sadly, NerdLush does not appear to have an onsite representative this year. I have been going the last few years attached to the fabulous Action Flick Chick and would be there this year with the Psychology of Cult TV panel however my real life decided to conflict. The panel is scheduled for Thursday and will be awesome, so I want to encourage you to go to it. Even without my smiling face.
