A little diamond in the rough- Tulare SciFi Con

22 Mar

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a new regional convention- the Tulare SciFi Con, in Tulare, California. The convention is new in the way that this was its second year- and we were informed by several vendors and attendees that it had grown immensely since last year.

A Brief Appreciation of Leonard Nimoy

28 Feb

image

Like many of you in geekdom, I felt a slight bit of sadness upon hearing the recent news of Leonard Nimoy’s passing. While a lot of his friends, peers, and fans who have met him over the years have laid their own tributes as of this writing, I thought I should talk about how he influenced me. Or in this case, how his iconic performance as Spock influenced me.

Take a trip with This American Journey

24 Feb

The first thing you need to know when planning a trip? Where the best diners are. And that is exactly how the route for the cross country trek at the center of Paul Blackthorne’s This American Journey begins. Which tells me that I picked the right film to watch.

A little John Barrowman is good for the soul.

10 Nov

As previously mentioned in the recent Comikaze Expo post, NerdLush caught the John Barrowman panels at the convention. We also caught them on video for those not able to attend the convention… and to be honest, because we just adore the man and wanted to be able to watch the panels again.

ZappCon, Year One

26 Oct

After spending the better part of a decade in major cities, and adventuring off to parts unknown (alright, just other parts of the U.S.), it’s tough to attend a small convention and come out happy. However, after relocating back to California’s Central Valley, NerdLush has attempted to get back into the community in the area. Which means attending the inaugural year for ZappCon.

Take a seat- I have something to say about mental illness

You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren’t paying attention to. ~ Robin Williams

I’m going off book today. I try to keep my real life and NerdLush separate but I think today it’s okay…

Earlier this week we lost a comedic treasure. Robin Williams had been a force of nature throughout my life. I can remember watching Mork & Mindy when I was a wee little one.
