As Long As I Don’t Wear Tights or Spandex, Issue 9 — SCUD, THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN

SCUD, THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN by Rob Schrab (Image / collected)

Among the big indie comics of the 90’s (like Jeff Smith’s Bone and Terry Moore’s Strangers in Paradise), there is a nice little footnote in writer/artist Rob Schrab’s Scud, The Disposable Assassin. Born of all things, by being dumped by a girl, this book around the latter half of the 90’s became a big indie success, spawned a video game, and was even optioned for a big Hollywood movie. But by the time the new decade rolled around, any new Scud issues had disappeared from comic shop shelves. Once again, heartbreak was behind this, but we’ll get there. Continue reading

Television Graveyard- plot 12, The Flash

4 Mar

Back in the 1980’s and early 90’s, network TV did it’s best to bring audiences superheroes. Looking back on these shows, knowing what today’s special effects can do… these shows were cheesy and cartoonish. BUT that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth your time.

In this installment we look back on 1990’s, The Flash.

ARROW Season 3×15, “Nanda Parbat” recap

26 Feb

arrow302

Welcome back, Arrowheads! A lot has gone on in Starling City since Ollie has come back (again), and most of it involves family. Thea knows about his secret vigilante persona (which she takes well) and that Malcolm made her kill Sara (which she takes badly). I have a bad feeling she’s not going to handle this alliance with her crazy father against Ra’s al Ghul very well. Meanwhile, Ollie is becoming aware he’s part of a team now than just being a team leader, Felicity is full-on helping Ray Palmer with his ATOM exo suit, and Laurel’s dad is a bit broken by a number of things that have come to light. Things are getting really dicey around Team Arrow, aren’t they? Continue reading

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So, Thea knows about Oliver being the Arrow! Quentin knows about Laurel being the Canary and Sara being dead! While Quentin might be off to get a drink (which, uh-oh), Ollie and Thea go off to train on Lian Yu! Also, we find out in those five years missing, Ollie has been back to Starling City, but for what?

ARROW Season 3×13, “Canaries” recap

12 Feb

arrow302

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So Ollie’s back in town to help Team Arrow, who managed to do okay without him. Then there’s Ollie aligning himself with Malcolm Merlyn so they can fight Ra’s al Ghul when he comes for them. Oh, and Thea’s DJ buddy Chase, is a League assassin. Plus, how’s Ollie going to take another woman he slept with becoming a vigilante wearing her sister’s outfit? Well, let’s all find out… Continue reading

ARROW Season 3×12, “Uprising” recap

5 Feb

arrow302

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So, Mr. Brickwell has managed to force the cops of Starling out of the Glades, despite the Black Canary/Laurel Lance helped Team Arrow trying their best to prevent that. Malcolm wants to skip town, but Thea is willing to stay and maybe face Ra’s and his League with dear old double-crossing dad. And Ollie has survived his duel with Ra’s with the help of Maseo and a seemingly estranged Tatsu. Well, here’s hoping he gets back soon, because Starling City is getting pummeled in bad news… Continue reading

ARROW Season 3×11, “Midnight City” recap

29 Jan

arrow302

Welcome back, Arrowheads! So good news, everyone: Oliver Queen’s alive! Maseo and Tatsu are healing him up in a cabin, so he’s not aware of the crapstorm building up in Star City. The rest of Team Arrow seems to be splintered thanks to their boss being gone. Malcolm wants to take Thea before Ra’s shows up. Criminal “Brick” has enough manpower to lay siege to the Glades. But, there is one good thing that happens: Laurel gets into a Canary suit and starts fighting bad guys! So let’s get this party started… Continue reading

ARROW Season 3×10, “Left Behind” recap

21 Jan

arrow302

Welcome back, Arrowheads! Hope you enjoyed the hiatus over the last month or so, but I have some bad news for you…Oliver Queen is dead. Yeah, the titular Arrow was killed in a mountain duel by Ra’s al Ghul (or possibly killed by that drop of that cliff, but let’s not dwell on that yet), protecting Thea, who got brainwashed by Malcolm Merlyn to kill Sara. Add to this, Ollie discovers Thea got some mad fighting skills, his mentor in Hong Kong years ago, Maseo, just got his membership in the League of Assassins, and if he doesn’t fight Ra’s, the evidence that Thea killed Sara will be released, sentencing her to death by the League (because that’s what dads do for their kids, I guess). And Felicity is discovering her new boss has a super-secret supersuit program he wants her to help in. So I guess the show’s over, which begs the question: if the show’s minus Arrow, shouldn’t we rename this show Diggle and Company? I mean Ollie’s dead, right? RIGHT? Continue reading

For those of you following my A&V Stimuli blog, you probably know I’ve been recapping Flash over there. But not to unintentionally leave you loyal NerdLush readers out of the loop, I thought it’d be fun to discuss my thoughts on the show so far here. Like my previous SHIELD post, let’s look at the good and bad that has come out of the last nine episodes. First, the good: Continue reading
