Welcome to the future! 2015 is here to stay!

1 Jan

Today, as we begin another shiny new year, we say goodbye to 2014. 2014 was a good year for NerdLush- we (I) had the opportunity to speak on panels at a few conventions; NerdLush grew with great guest posters (two of which are now official crew members!- Charity and Marc); and a headquarters move. Here is the flipagram video I made on NYE that shows many of the adventures I had with various crew…

But as it is the first day of the new year, it’s time to look back on 2014 and discuss the “Best Of…”

A few comments here (pardon the formatting, I am doing this from a handheld device):

First off, I have only seen one of the five movies tagged above as “best of 2014”. I would say my top three are The Monuments Men, Transcendence, and Deliver Us From Evil with a special nod to Her (since it technically came out in December 2013). Most disappointing? The only one on the list above that I saw: Maleficent. And that’s only because I expected something different.

Most annoying song? Tie between “Let It Go”, “All About That Bass”, “Bang Bang”, and anything by Iggy Azalea.

Darkest moment in The NerdVerse? The #GamerGate controversy. All parts of it, from the ethical quandary that started it to the Internet hate monger trolls to how it makes me pause before identifying myself as a gamer (something I did previously with an amount of shameful pride as a result of my age anyway), is reprehensible in my eyes. The only positive here is that it got some attention by some well meaning folks in the industry and gamers like myself, and that maybe, after things settle, things will change. But hey, these are just my opinions.

I don’t think I saw any of Natasha’s list, but then I only saw two or three things in the theatre last year and am insanely behind on my movie watching.

Agreed about GamerGate… I was woefully out of the loop when it started and when I got caught up, I was deeply upset. I am glad that it brought attention to the issues.
