Restarting The Writing Engine

Wow. Very weird writing that again for this blog, but yet I’m here doing it. This post is both an apology and a slight exploration of why I stopped posting here for a while last year and until now. Like a lot of you, 2020 sucker punched me hard. I’ve never been what you would call a extroverted kind of guy, so the idea of having to stay in more than usual didn’t bother me. But what happened was something worse: my need to write became harder.

I know the common misconception of some is that “well, you got extra time to do the thing you love, so why not take this time to do more of it?”, but it’s never that simple. Let’s put it this way: did you notice me writing more posts for NerdLush last year? Obviously I didn’t. I’ve forced myself to write under a deadline for a long time, because I knew the minute I stopped, it was going to be harder to restart the motor in me. A deadline is both a blessing and a curse for writers, even self imposed ones. And with all the mess that was last year, it was harder to force myself to stick to a deadline. Why bother recapping things when everything seemed to be going so wrong for so many?

Add to that, the big constant in my writing here, recapping Arrow, was done. So, nearly seven years of consistent recapping was just over. And after that much work, it’s hard not to want to pump the brakes and stop things for a moment. Of course the second I did that is when COVID-19 hit and made it harder to push myself to keep doing my regular stuff here. And eventually it got to the point where I dreaded doing this again, thinking, “well, why bother?”. “I’m letting my audience and my friend/boss down, so why bother waltzing back in like everything’s normal?” I would bet it irritated you readers as much as it did me just seeing I abruptly stopped.

Pretty sure we all felt as beat up as Oliver Queen for the last year and a half.

What does all of this mean? Well, I’ve been making different attempts to kickstart the old writing engine in the last year, and maybe now, finally I can do what I love again regularly. Sure I did a post or two in this nightmare of a year, but I felt lacking in myself to do more. I’ve had so many ideas for stories, let alone blog posts, that I’ve been itching to do for the last year that…well, has just been nigh impossible to make myself do until now.

So, this is NOT me leaving NerdLush, but re-committing myself to what I do here. I got a few Arrowverse catch up posts coming up later in the summer, and possibly a regular Recap Round-Up again come the fall. I got ideas for a few random posts of geekdom that are being worked on as we speak. So I’ll be here for the foreseeable future, and I hope you’ll be here too.

Thank you for your patience. And I hope you all are getting better too after this last year.
