So in my recent binge of Syfy channel films, I’ve taken to finally watching the channel’s versions of the fairy tales/fantasies- Tin Man, Alice, and Neverland. I’ve stated a few times that I’m not big on things that are altered from the original. Why change a good story? Or song? But every once in a while I give these things a chance.
For years, I’ve been curious — what does a script actually say when it calls for a character to be crazy? I know it seems like a weird thing to wonder, but not if you really know me. I have degrees in Psychology and the focus of my research, work, education, and life is a severely dysfunctional population.
This is not a review. Let me just point that out now.
I saw a screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters the other night and I had a fabulous time. I know, there are many who are going to say- “seriously? You enjoyed that?” And to them I say, “Yes”. And here’s why- when I see a movie, I want to be entertained. I don’t want to be lectured at or made to feel bad. To me, a movie is entertainment and therefore I should leave the theater feeling like I’ve had fun. I want to laugh. I want to be exhilarated. I don’t mind a few tears. But the end result of my time is that I want to have been entertained. And it doesn’t even have to be a good film (we know I adore my bad movies)- as long as I come out of it not feeling like I just wasted 2 hours of my life.
Not too long ago I launched a poll to see who you felt was the greatest foe in the Star Trek universe. The poll is still open, but as of now the results are pretty weighted in favor of the Borg. It’s time again to take a gander at Star Trek and discuss… the films. There are eleven films, counting the reboot in 2009. Inspired by my recent Trek weekend I opted to watch the few that either I’d blocked out or hadn’t seen (yes, there was one I had never seen!). And now here I am to discuss them… so put down your phasers, grab a romulan ale, and let’s take a gander at the many films of Star Trek!
Out of the chaos, we emerge exhausted & broke, but having had a good time with great experiences, we arrive home satisfied. Here’s how it played out:
